I have just completed my demolition, and been left with bare earth. I probably wont start building for 3 months, and could be building for a year.

My bare earth will not stay so for long, especially this time of year. I'm wondering if i should sow grass seeds just to give the weeds some competition or accept i'll have to blitz it again in a year?

If you seed it you will have to cut it and maybe it will get damaged with building works

I would leave it till you are done then weed kill it and level out and sow it then

you could strim the thstles +nettles  in between time

You could eat the nettles tbh. Really good lightly boiled with proper butter and pepper.

Add some garlic, sauté lightly and you can eat the snails as well, Monsieur.

If you have parts that do not get much traffic, you can carpet them to stop growth.

(Is that sounding rude, waiting for a rug or welcome mat comment)

Roman snails do you? We have loads here. Migrated or whatever they do from Lullingstone or something. The big ones are near tennis ball sized.

Let nature do it's thing then deal with it when you need to. Save your time and energy. trust me, you'll need it 🤣

Or buy a 1kg box of wildflower seeds and cover the area. That's what I did. Looks good for one summer at least

If it is decent top soil, it will get pulverised and full of all sorts of muck during the build, so scrape it off into a pile at the edge of the site until building has finished.  Then spray with glyphosate wait until inevitable weeds have died, spread it evenly and seed.
