markharro Posted February 28 Posted February 28 1m above floor height is what they advise but we are quite tall as a family. 6'3 and 5'9 as a couple although our 10 yr old is still to catch up! My query is whether its worth adding some height to the instal so that the WC pan is higher than normal above the floor? If so, how many mm?
Temp Posted February 28 Posted February 28 The top of our pan ended up about 395mm above the finished floor. Google says normal height for the top of the pan is around 400mm. The seat adds a bit more. That seems to work ok for my 6ft kids. 1m to the top of the frame wouldn't be possible on my house as the window sill is lower than that. I did discover that some pans have a non standard spacing between the wall mounting bolts, flush pipe and waste pipe. So perhaps worth checking the pan you want will fit before its all hidden. Make sure the frame is securely fixed to the wall and floor and ideally 2x4 studs either side as well the forces are quite high when someone plonks themselves down on the edge of the pan.

markharro Posted March 1 Author Posted March 1 Thanks @Temp and @nod thats actually quite a difference between you both - 5.5 cm if I have it right. Are both of your measurements to the top of the toilet pan or the seat?
Beau Posted March 1 Posted March 1 (edited) We bought a 'comfort hight' pan and the top of the seat is 475mm high. We got it as we have some elderly parents who come to stay and thought it would be nice for them. They have still to visit and we dont really like the extra hight but either of us are tall Edited March 1 by Beau
Mike Posted March 1 Posted March 1 The big installer of high WCs is the NHS, whose WCs always seem uncomfortably high, though no doubt OK for those with mobility issues. If they're all to the spec on page 87 of this document, they're at 475-480mm. You could call in at your local hospital to 'test drive' one. BTW, in terms of ergonomics & health, squat (or low) WCs are said to be preferable to the standard Western model. See, for example, https://www.ahealthylife.nl/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/Straining-study.pdf
ToughButterCup Posted March 2 Posted March 2 The closer you get to the full squat position , the healthier it is for anyone to drop the kids off in the pool. It reduces strain, straightens the rectum out, and stretches yer hips. The puborectalis muscle is also relaxed. A footstool helps because your knees should be higher than your hips, the old puborectalis again . So lean forwards slightly, rest your forearms on your knees, and then think of England, Harry and St George. A long way of saying Lower is Better Please don't ask me why I know so much about this particular issue.

Trust me (and almost everyone else with any decorum), I have no intention of asking. But as we are talking about such things, may I raise the grubby subject of bum guns? It’s a fair way down on my research list but I’m keen to understand the whys and wherefors and also plumbing regs too. Opinions would be welcomed….

Opinions would be welcomed…. Back injury makes one a God sent answer to a problem that appears when it decides to ruin a couple of days for me. Get one with a drier as well as a 'hose'. Download the app (Geberit) and tune it to your particular Botticelli. There is genuine fun to be had if a relative refuses to use the app. For example they might be sitting there with a smile of benign relief and you - using the app from elsewhere in the house - change the water temperature to cold , or the strength of flow to ArseBlast: Or both. On hearing the screams, jump in the car and off to the only pub in the area which is in a mobile signal dead spot. Flowers from the garage on the way home. 2

I would elaborate but it’s too soon after breakfast. For WC height, almost every client I install the Geberit frames for opts to add 25/30mm height, but not go for the huge lift up to ‘comfort’ height.
