Need to buy a number of sockets for new loft

room And want to get some usb type sockets for some of them.

Don’t want to go cheap but not really sure what considerations I should make, ie. I understand that the usb outlets are ‘never off’ ie not like the 3 pin which is switched on and off at the socket. Is that right? If so, are there ones where the usb a or c element can be switched?

Thinking of a plate with 2 usb a and 1 usb c - is it dangerous to have too many?

We have them in all bedrooms, BUT only used once as they seem to make  slight buzzing noise when something was plugged in, which bugged the life out of me, so stop using them.

What brand out of interest?

Never noticed any of them buzz before.

That’s poor from what’s usually a good brand. I don’t usually fit their sockets etc though as availability is poor near me

Personally, I've avoided inbuilt usb sockets since having them a few years ago.

Most make a either a high pitch noise or a buzzing that gets worse over time (some older folks might not be able to hear it, but I can).

Over time, usb charging has changed, and older sockets charge new devices very slowly. This will carry on I believe.. They'll be obsolete or unusable within 5 years

I just put in location based additional sockets, strategical ones that make sense for devices (behind coffee tables in the living room, kitchen counter, bedside table etc). And use a good quality charger with lead.

I bunged in some cheapies from Amazon mostly hidden (garage, behind bedside cabinet, etc.).  No buzzing or whining, might not be the fastest charging in the world but then stuff stays plugged in till I get up in the morning, so no issues on charging rates for me.

Modern switch mode stuff should use microscopic levels of juice on standby, methinks, so I like em. Lots.

There was a report a few years back about the parasitic loads of some USB sockets.

I would think they come under the EU standby power directive now, which is ~1W I think.

I just buy mobile devices that have very low power consumption.
