Home insurance

Recommended Posts

I wondered if anyone else has encounter this

We are trying to get standard home insurance and have been turned down by two insurance companies due to the house having a name rather than a number I pointed out that none of the houses down here have numbers

While we are quite rural We are only ten minutes aways from hundreds of new homes

One has stated that a house name implies that it’s a small holding

Also the proximity of the coast

11 miles

Any thoughts ?

No issues here also, is the house registered with the post office? If so its an official house address.

Like you none of the houses near us has a number. But not heard of issues

Thanks both of the above

Yes we’ve been registered with Counsul and post office for three months

No issues with utilities Except BT 😂

We live in Sunningdale on a main road and none of the houses on my postcode and adjacent area have house numbers, only house names. We're not in a rural area.

We've never had any issues getting insuraance, buildings or motor......

Not encountered this problem at all - ours is a house name and in fact the "postie" at the time said that they prefer house names rather than numbers in rural areas!

On the subject of house insurance though, we have had a renewal through and it has increased by over 30% !!

I did my checks and research and found that the insurer I'm with, and who are wanting me to renew with, are in fact the cheapest still, depsite the sharp increase.

Just remembered my build was a house name not number, it already existed as a derelict bungalow but no problem getting insurance (direct line).

note, just had to renew my car insurance and renewal was £100 cheaper than last year 👍(that’s a first).

“Bollocks” spring to mind, just call it number 1 (but retain the name) who is to know 🤷‍♂️

Not sure if that is suitable name for a house :)

We have only a house name . It is an isolated house with no neighbours. The lane has no name, and we are not in a village or even a hamlet. The locality name is a mansion 2 miles away, and the "city" is a small village 5 miles away. The county postal address is not the same as the geographical one, and the sorting office is in a third county 10 miles away.

I have lived here for 40 years, and in that time the Post Office have changed the address and the post code 3 times.

Only the house name has remained constant, since at least 1780.

No insurance problems.
