R O Clarke
Thought that would grab your attention ! I am a retired IFA and relocated to Norfolk near the coast. We thought we had plenty of money to do everything we wanted on the old property we bought but as you know things are so expensive now, particularly if you use builders as we have. don’t get me wrong, they have done a great job.but now decided to build my double garage myself after our builders have just done the pad only. Joined the forum looking for help with this.
ProDave
Hi and welcome. Do you need financial advice? I must be the forum expert at dealing with how to build with no money but that's another story. You are in the right place for help with how to DIY build.
joe90
Welcome to THE forum for self building, plenty of good advise here from people that have done it (not trying to sell you stuff). What’s your preferred method of build?

The only member here with enough money is @Pocster Talk nicely to him and he'll put a HobNob in the post for you. That should save you a bit. What’s your preferred method of build? Morning Jo I would actually prefer block and then clad with composite wood effect cladding to match our cottage but although I am quite handy, originally coming from an engineering background I don’t think I could lay bricks to a good enough standard for a building. The builders who have done the slab for me have used blocks and a few courses of bricks up to pad level. They have said timber frame would be easier for me,although possibly a bit more expensive than blocks. Although I have architect plans and have received planning permission,I don’t have detailed drawings for either block or timber frame build and do not wish to back to my architect. Really all I need are some drawings and I would be away, any ideas as to how I could obtain these would be great.

Various builds work better with different methods.
joe90
I too am not “qualified” to lay bricks, my recent garage was dead easy, kit form and looks good. Just another possibility to consider,

Iceverge
Any indication of the spans etc over the door? Easiest DIY would be to frame it yourself on site I think. Maybe trusses for the roof. Would be quicker than building it from sticks. Are you planning on making it a useable space? Here's a couple of links for ideas.

Hi Please find attached a picture with plate height indicated but this in for the original design which was going to be block with flint in fill, but I am guessing that the dimensions can be used for a wood frame build ? I do not have a dimension for the door opening, only the overall length and width attached if that helps. R O Clarke
Sorry, yes I am planning to use the loft for storage so roof trusses would need to allow this,
