Thought that would grab your attention !

I am a retired IFA and relocated to Norfolk near the coast.

We thought we had plenty of money to do everything we wanted on the old property we bought but as you know things are so expensive now, particularly if you use builders as we have.

don’t get me wrong, they have done a great job.but now decided to build my double garage myself after our builders have just done the pad only.

Joined the forum looking for help with this.

Welcome to THE forum for self building, plenty of good advise here from people that have done it (not trying to sell you stuff). What’s your preferred method of build?

Morning Jo

I would actually prefer block and then clad with composite wood effect cladding to match our cottage but although I am quite handy, originally coming from an engineering background I don’t think I could lay bricks to a good enough standard for a building.

The builders who have done the slab for me have used blocks and a few courses of bricks up to pad level.

They have said timber frame would be easier for me,although possibly a bit more expensive than blocks.

Although I have architect plans and have received planning permission,I don’t have detailed drawings for either block or timber frame build and do not wish to back to my architect.

Really all I need are some drawings and I would be away, any ideas as to how I could obtain these would be great.

Hi and welcome.

Do you need financial advice?  I must be the forum expert at dealing with how to build with no money but that's another story.

You are in the right place for help with how to DIY build.

Haha ! I am probably more qualified than you to give financial advice.

Hi @R O Clarke

Cam you post the de-identified architect plans please.

Various builds work better with different methods.
