MikeSharp01 Posted September 12, 2024 Posted September 12, 2024 I was just fitting the first of the internal doors, based on a trenched Howdens door frame, and I thought I had better check building regs as it is at the end of a corridor - head on though, found that the clear width is only about 720mm when 750mm is the BR requirement - seems daft that you can by a door kit from the H and it is not compliant anywhere I figure I must be misreading the BR doc?
ProDave Posted September 12, 2024 Posted September 12, 2024 All our internal doors are 826mm and even that only gives about 780mm clear opening width. Cupboard doors can be narrower and of course a lot of what H sell is for retro fit into older houses and nobody is ever going to check or care. Time to discuss with H and change them for a bit wider? 1
Russell griffiths Posted September 12, 2024 Posted September 12, 2024 You can buy lots of things, doesn’t mean they meet building regs. that’s a tight door in a modern house nowadays 838mm on every opening here. Except one cupboard. 1
Oz07 Posted September 12, 2024 Posted September 12, 2024 I thought the only doors which needed that access requirement was a route from the front door to the gf w/c? Maybe the kitchen too? Plenty of mass built homes have 30" on ground floor.
Dave Jones Posted September 12, 2024 Posted September 12, 2024 you need a 900mm structural opening for regs these days. 1
