vfrdave
I have a dilema regarding heat/smoke and carbon monoxide alarms for my house. In each of my living rooms specifically I require both a smoke and carbon monoxide alarm to which I dont want to have 2 stuck in the ceiling along with MVHR outlet. Combined offerings seem to be limited with none from Aico which seems to be a favourite on here. Nest is a combined offering but the cost puts me off as I would need to put these throughout the house to satisfy the linked system requirement, needing 6/7 puts me off. Anyone any further suggestions?
Lesgrandepotato
We've gone Nest - buying them in waves so it seemed cheaper! They do seem nicely made, as you may expect at the price!
PeterW
Got to ask why.... CO is only needed where there is a combustion device (stove, fire, boiler) so unless you've got a lot of those then you shouldn't need them in every room..?
vfrdave
@PeterW my original post is misleading slightly, we have 2 rooms that have wood burning stoves so both smoke and CO sensors required. If we were to use nest in these then we would be bound to use nest in the rest of the house to satisfy the linking of the smoke alarms is my understanding. That would then equate to 6/7 units. Declan52
Every new house has them on the ceiling now so you don't really notice them walking about.
vfrdave
@Declan52 Im well used to having them on the ceiling but not 2 together ie a smoke and a CO hence why I am looking at combined efforts
PeterW
Kidde do one but it’s 9v only I think. They also do a decent range of linking ones also bear in mind the CO sensor requirement for location is different to that of a smoke alarm ... ProDave
What annoys me though, is you can't find a CO and a smoke detector that look the same, i.e Aico smoke and heat detectors re round, but their CO detectors are rectangular. WHY?
PeterW
Aico CO are round ........ or the one I bought last week was I’m sure ..!!!

As much as I like Aico, for the ease of installation and termination, if I can find another make that has a CO alarm to match the heat and smoke alarms I will be choosing that instead. (if anyone knows such a make....?)
Declan52
Since we are talking about smoke alarms how do you get one to stop chirping even after a new battery is put in.

I had one that went like this, and it turned out that the terminals inside the unit were dirty and a bit corroded. A rub with a bit of Scotchbrite followed by a smear of vaseline on the terminals got it working again. Also, check the new battery. I've pulled a new one out of the drawer before now only to find that it's gone flat from being stored for too long, and was out of date................
