MortarThePoint Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 I'm selecting paint for our new build and wanted to tap into all the experience we have at Buildhub in what paints have worked well and given an attractive and durable finish. Paints can be more expensive per litre, but obviously if they go on thinner or most importantly save the labour cost of an extra coat, there are much bigger savings to be had. The poll tries to include the usual suspects, so hopefully I haven't missed any key ones. It is mainly focused on walls rather than ceilings, though that may not make a difference.
ProDave Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 I selected Johnstones, that's what we use for final coats. BUT on a new build I thoroughly recommend Wickes trade matt white emulsion for the first coats on bare plaster. P.S do you want me to edit "Paint Pole" to "Paint poll" ?

JohnMo Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 Dulux trade every time, water down for first primer coat on new walls, then straight out of tin after. Covering power is great. Buying from Screwfix or B&Q is cheaper than trade account with Dulux.
Pocster Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 I didn’t know users could do polls . I’ve got quite a few ideas …
saveasteading Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 I've found decorators like Leyland esp for the diluted priming coat. The price can be decent too.. I never got good prices at specialist paint merchants. I guess decorators like the convenience plus, compared to most trades, the material goes a long way. And the delivery can be impressive, saving time.
garrymartin Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 Tikkurila Anti-Reflex for white ceilings. Johnstone's TRADE paints - Aqua Guard Durable Water Based Satin for white woodwork, Acrylic Durable Eggshell or Acrylic Durable Matt for walls, or Perfect Matt if you have a wall surface that's far from perfect!
twice round the block Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 It's often better to spray ceilings for a smooth finish. If you roller walls it makes touching up marks etc easier. I've always used Leyland.
