Filling the gap between soffit & outer skin brickwork

I was going to go around the house with silicone to fill this gap, but a builder friend gave me this expanding foam strip to try. Seems a LOT simpler than silicone. 
 

How have others dealt with this gap?

The builder should have built the brickwork higher Or packed the Sofit down to cover the gap

Fit the foam

then fit a timber trim over it, painted the same colour as the soffit. 
will look a lot sharper.

Is this a timber frame build? If so, the compriband is a good call and I wouldn't agree with @nod as there could be a bit of frame shrinkage yet...

You would normally set your brickwork so that you can sit the Soffit on th top and simply pin it down 

That wouldn’t restrict any movement 

Real balls up on the joinery side 

You shouldn’t be filling in with bits of foam Get you builder to sort it out 

I really hate these lame excuses about movement Adding bits of foam etc

So you think the TF installer (who fitted the soffits) should have calculated the brick courses and built tight to that? Not sure that would’ve been possible, as the roof weight needed to be allowed for etc

I, too have found lots of uses for the compriband tape left over from my window installs. I did all the gable ladders and then soffits and fascias myself. Used tape on some gaps, EBT on others. I have Thermohouse EPS roof boards, which do not facilitate the usual soffit and facia board fixing methods and require 450mm high boards to cover EPS.
