DC5
Hi all, can anyone help with the spec required for the step for a back door on a extension please - property is in Scotland. Please see the pic attached, I have referred this to our architect but he’s on holiday for 3 weeks now! so question is what spec is needed height wise and dimensions - do we need a slope? ProDave
Assuming your front door has level access, then you just need normal steps, no ramp etc.
DC5
Hi Dave, thanks for that, this was my understanding but wanted to check. The door opens inward, is there any minimum dimensions for the step?

I always have another read through when in any doubt. https://www.gov.scot/publications/building-standards-technical-handbook-2020-domestic/4-safety/4-1-access-buildings/

What rise and going is required to an extension?
ETC
However - if you think about this logically - the best access will always be a level access at all doors. If you have level access to your home elsewhere then a maximum of a 150mm step up into the extension should be grand. I’m quoting the guidance from NI but I suspect it’s not too far away in Bonnie Scotland. Any Scottish BCOs out there to double check?

Not essential to have wheelchair access if the rest of the storey is self contained. "As accessible as possible". Steps as in section 4.3.
