markharro Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 This will be 3phase but a fairly standard instal and no data cabling or other smart home stuff which I will be doing myself. What would be a ballpark figure? I have just had my first quote which has sort of crushed me with how expensive it is. thanks
jayc89 Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 Not exactly the same, but I would have thought more expensive, I had our house re-wired 18 months ago, inc. chasing our brickwork etc, which took an age. Included data and aerials to all rooms, re-routing the phone line into a new "comms cupboard" and few other bits we added in (couple of extractor fans, hanging and wiring our staircase light etc). It came to just over £10k for both 1st and 2nd fix.
Kelvin Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 (edited) Yes well get more quotes. 😂 Quotes for stuff are all over the place. 64m2 of Alwitra roofing membrane fitted. First quote £14,000! The second quote is £5000 which I still thought was a bit dear but that’s what I’m going with. Edited February 20, 2023 by Kelvin
Nickfromwales Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 I've stopped quoting for wiring work tbh, as even pricing at £18k and above for a typical 4 bed, we just never made any money. Outside lights, a bit of interior lighting design and some TV points / LAN connections etc soon put the hours and materials costs too high to be of interest. North of £20k for a comprehensive 3ph wiring install is not crazy money tbh, but if you get a small, local firm or sole trader you'll defo save money.

So I'll be doing all the prep - putting in all the ducting, wall boxes etc. - and buying almost all the kit, other than the cables, so the electrician only has to pull the wires through, fit the consumer unit and make the connections, similar to a rewire. Although you still need to know what you're doing to get everything in the right places. Edited February 20, 2023 by Mike
markharro Posted February 20, 2023 Author Posted February 20, 2023 Think I will have to do something similar - what % can you save this way?
jack Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 It's a long time ago but we had a quote for £14.5k for very standard wiring of a large 4 bedroom house in 2015 in the south east i assume that'd have to be well north of £20k now.
Kelvin Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 I’ve budgeted £18k! Should get quotes back this week. Plumbing was £12k.

Just a guess, but I'm hoping to save between 1/3 and 1/2 of the labour cost and, by carefully shopping around, maybe 10% on the materials. But I won't have an answer for a few months.
Mattg4321 Posted February 20, 2023 Posted February 20, 2023 It all depends on a lot of things. It does sound perhaps a little high. I’m guessing it’s not 4 sockets and a centre light in each room though?!
