markharro
I am trying to plan for whether I need to instal an aerial for Freeview. Does anyone know if there is any likelihood that the full set of Freeview channels will be provided over a standard hard wired broadband connection at any point in the same way you can access eg iplayer? thanks
Temp
Currently each channel needs its own app and I don't think any allow recording of streamed programs. This article from 2021 says there is a one app does it all in the works but who knows when. https://www.cordbusters.co.uk/freeview-broadcasters-all-in-one-streaming-app/
SteamyTea
I was reading about WiFi7 the other day. https://www.howtogeek.com/782023/what-is-wi-fi-7/ (not the most technical of articles, but you get the idea) So why bother with terrestrial broadcasts? Seems the technology is already here to make better use of broad band in the home. There are a number of projects make use of cheap hardware to stream TV. There is also Radio, very cheap and the pictures are better.
JohnMo
You even have to careful about which Freeview box you get, as some don't do all the channel apps, or don't allow you go back in time at all.
Temp
We have a Freeview aerial and Freesat PVR. But we've recently dedicated an old laptop to TV. Mostly so we can run a VPN for our F1 sub. Figure that might be the way to go in future. At some point I was going to look for a remote to drive it.
ProDave
I looked into this for a friend who is not allowed an outside tv aerial (conservation area) and cannot get a decent signal with an indoor aerial. Her only option is to stream her tv over the internet and that means a different app for each provider and of course the app won't allow you to skip the adverts (I prefer to record such programs on the satellite PVR and fast forward the adverts)
dpmiller
It wouldn't be my cup of tea, but this exactly what the Sky Glass device purports to do. All channels, all off the internet.

dpmiller
I believe you can buy it outright without a sub, but no idea what it does without one.
mjsx
If you have Virgin broadband then I think the Stream box will do pretty much what you want: https://www.virginmedia.com/tv/stream You even get a EPG.
