mike2016
Hi, I'm looking to repaint the exterior masonry walls of my house over the summer. I'll wash down the walls, scrape away the loose paint etc and fill the cracks. After that I've found a vast range of interweb advice over which paint (& possibly primer) to use - Pliolite/Silicone/Acrylic/water based/oil etc. I don't necessarily want to seal the wall (cavity block construction) if that could prevent the wall breathing and cause moisture problems inside. What paint have you had success with and what should I aim to use in my case do you think? Thanks!
ProDave
I can't advise on paint, but for cleaning, when I last did this on a 1930's pebbledashed house, I used a pressure washer to clean the wall and remove loose paint. then just painted over what was left with something cheap from one of the sheds. CC45
I did the same as @ProDave. Branded paint from Wickes etc
Barney12
On a standard rendered wall which has already been painted there is (in my opinion) little value in going for one of the specialist paints (silicone, potassium silicate etc) as its mainly going to be bonding to the existing paint on the wall. Just go for a textured variant of external emulsion as it will help hide the areas where paint has peeled and be removed.
Ferdinand
Last time in 2013 to lighten up our garden walls which were partly breezeblock I used Sandtex from B&Q, based on OK brand plus price. It s still there looking OK behind the Himalayan Giant. Fence needs attention :-). F Edited June 25, 2017 by Ferdinand
mike2016
Thanks Folks! Think I'll poke around the shed and see if there's any leftover paint from last time and not get too carried away around specialist paints. Good enough to cover over what's there.
