Hi folks

Installing my Vent Axis Sentinel MVHR unit today. The instructions say to use either a water trap or HEPV0 waterless trap.

My preference is a water trap, but I have a slight concern that under certain conditions there may be no condensation created and the trap may dry up. Am I overthinking this and nothing to worry about, or is the HEPV0 a better job?

If I go for the HEP it'll have to be horizontal. Drain feeds into the SVP.

Thanks

The benefit of the waterless trap is indeed the avoidance of breaking the seal when there's no condensate. The fitting instructions for mine mandate the use of one.

Wet one will dry out at times and smell, dry one doesn't care, it doesn't smell.  If your trying to save a few pounds it's not worth saving on this.

Our condensate drain is a small bore plastic tube with no trap at all. It discharges onto the ground near back door. Have never actually seen anything come out of it. Never been a problem. Your mileage may differ 🙂

May be no need for a trap to stop smells if you're not connecting to a waste water system, but is it possible that your mvhr is drawing fresh air through the condensate drain, or losing warm air?

Waterless trap on ours.

Hadn't thought of that but it's pretty small bore. About 8mm I think.
