HI all, I'm doing a self build 3 bed Bungalow in Rotherham, I've been  lurking for a while and trying read through previous topics. Had some good advice already from a couple of members. Just in the process of getting the services in. The water company have told me I will be getting a 25mm supply up to my boundary, and I can lay either 25mm or 32mm supply up to the bungalow. I was just wondering if there is any advantage laying 32mm, its 32m from the boundary to the bungalow.

                                     Thanks for any advice.

If you have a sprinkler system I think you need a separate 32mm supply.

Unless you have infrastructure such as a water storage tank.

Good morning and welcome, 25mm to your boundary? I would ask how far away the main is? If they are supplying a long 25mm then it’s pointless you doing anything larger and you could well end up with a low pressure and flow. If this is the case then a sprinkler would definitely need a large storage tank and pump system.

Hi @Merv and welcome.

Looking on line, the difference between the cost of 50m of 25mm or 32mm is about a tenner. I would think digging the trench will cost a bit more!

I think your better off with 32mm, but the boffins here will correct me if I'm wrong, and I for one would spend a little more and put the 32mm in.

Good luck with your project

Marvin

We have 32mm over about 100m from the meter. This feeds the house and the sprinkler, it splits under the house so the sprinkler feed doesn't go through that stop cock inside house. We did have a special high flow meter installed that works for sprinkler systems with a 32mm feed into it from the main. We get 10bar at the house and it passed all the flow / pressure tests needed for the sprinkler. But they also said we were unusual as a pump and tank are usually needed.

Welcome.

Thank you very much for doing some of your own research. You'll know by now how often we get asked exactly the same questions, its just that the words are in a different order.

Have you discovered the search system that we have on this board? Its quite powerful.

Just in case you haven't, here's an example relating to your post above.

Hi, Thanks for the replies and the advice . I forgot to say its about 10m from the water main to my boundary and I wasn't intending having a sprinkler system so ill just go with the 25mm supply. Thanks ToughButtercup for the heads-up about the search system, great resource ?

                           Thanks
