richie9648 Posted December 11, 2021 Posted December 11, 2021 Having a debate about straight bond v staggered Bond on extension roof. Builder says they can be bonded straight - I say not as it will have higher risk of leaks tell me he is talking nonsense please?? Thanks
tonyshouse Posted December 12, 2021 Posted December 12, 2021 What tiles or slates are we talking about please?
richie9648 Posted December 12, 2021 Author Posted December 12, 2021 Quinn concrete tiles as per below: https://www.manninghamconcrete.co.uk/roofing/tiles-slates/tiles/quinn/quinn-western-slate-tile/
ProDave Posted December 12, 2021 Posted December 12, 2021 They will look shite straight, they need to be staggered to look correct. 1
bassanclan Posted December 12, 2021 Posted December 12, 2021 (edited) "TILES The roof is to be covered with WESTERN SLATE flat tiles as per sample approved and laid in even courses of not more than 345mm gauge and not less than 75mm headlap. The tiling is to be broken bonded." Page 6 of manufacturing instructions Debate over rooftiles_technical_manual.pdf Edited December 12, 2021 by bassanclan
Dave Jones Posted December 12, 2021 Posted December 12, 2021 they are interlocking so would be water tight laid straight with the correct headlap, as would a single row on its own for example. But as others said would look 'different'.

tonyshouse Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 When I used to buy them the halves worked for a perfect half bond

tonyshouse Posted December 13, 2021 Posted December 13, 2021 Not quite , there needs to be a big half and a small half ?
