It can help to score the area where say the coving is going. Thus you scratch through the distemper layer and "key" the surface.

When doing it on brickwork it chips off all the distemper and leaves a surface ready for plastering.

Unfortunately alot of it is plasterboard and alot off the hard walls have chunks missing

This is just some of the loose paint we have taken off but loads underneath
