Real fire and air tight house

Just settling in for the night in front of the fire , I'm beginning to wonder if not having fire place in the new home is something I might want to reconsider? Can you have a good air test with a real fire place ?

No.

 

You could cheat the test by blocking the chimney, but in reality you'll just have a massive draft in the house and lose way more heat than an open fire would contribute. 

 

 

(I'm getting slightly militant about fires in new builds...)

A room sealed wood burning stove should not hurt an air test much.

Thanks for the replies,  I think its more psychological than a need for heat , just something about the flickering flames on a cold day , I do have caveman tendencies.

@Buzz, strictly speaking it will make no difference to a pressure test as any open chimney should be sealed before the test, but 40m³/hr will be added to the  SAP ventilation rate.

Thanks @Vijay just had a quick Google,  definitely worth further investigation ?

As @Vijay says, bioethanol fires, that's the way we're going. Real flickering flames, no chimney or dedicated air supply required, low heat output, easily switch on and offable, no ash and when things get tough you could probably drink the fuel.
