The grid "buy back" now is only about 5.5p per unit and only for what you export, not all that you generate. Even buying very cheap panels and installing myself, and using much more myself (better value to self use it than export it for 5.5p) I will have a payback of about 6 years. There are some things that make the numbers look better i.e. replacing LPG or pellet burning with PV.
