Moggaman Posted December 1, 2019 Posted December 1, 2019 We have a wood burner. A lot of smoke would come into the room when refilling. We installed a H cowl on the flue as it sits under the ridge line. It improved but it’s bad again . Would the orientation of the h cowl matter ?. I was told the h cowl solved every down draft problem . It happens in all weathers . thanks
ProDave Posted December 1, 2019 Posted December 1, 2019 Which room is the stove in? Are there any extract fans in that room? Where does the stove get it's combustion air from?
ToughButterCup Posted December 1, 2019 Posted December 1, 2019 Have I got this right? Smoke only comes into the room when burner doors are open. If that's correct then there isn't enough 'draw' to counteract the downdraft. Lengthen the chimney to increase the draw.
nod Posted December 1, 2019 Posted December 1, 2019 I smoked us out twice when ours was first installed Apparently the logs had to much moister content
Mulberry View Posted December 1, 2019 Posted December 1, 2019 Here's a revelation for anyone that has flue issues. When we fitted our Wood Burner, we could only achieve a flue length of just over 3 metres, which is woefully short. We battled for years with it being incredibly difficult to light and would frequently smoke the room out. Then we bought one of these cowls, which totally transformed it. I know it looks a bit funky and weird, but it's worth every penny. It works like a dream, spinning on a nice little bearing, tracking the wind and drawing air through it's ingenious design. Ours is now matt black so as not to draw attention to it, also the reflective chrome coating was playing havoc with the neighbours when it was sunny. This is where we got ours... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DRAGON-Self-adjusting-Chimney-Cowl-for-insertion-6-7-8-10-stainless-steel/151951881289?hash=item236109b449:m:mkckuj9atLKv4qtYNTby9QA 1
