Sealing a floor

I have cemfloor floor screed with ufh, it doesn't appear to give off much dust. We are hoping to move in shortly with lots of uncovered floor and I don't want extra dust.

What can I seal the floor with that won't be detrimental to future tiling or wooden flooring being laid? I have been told to avoid the traditional PVA as it will crack and peel off with ufh, not sure if this is true.

Thanks in advance, can't actually believe I have just typed the words "move in shortly"

If you plan on tiling later then my understanding is that "ordinary" pva can become re "wetted" if you get leaks through the grout and cause the tiles to lift. (You can get waterproof pva).

I used thinned down SBR as a dust sealer on the concrete. Firstly on the basis its waterproof, second it could be used as an alternative to the tanking primer. Worked really well as it was a couple of YEARS before I got round to tiling.

look on-line (e bay) you need a clear dust proofer or concrete sealer, plain ordinary cheap £21 its like water, goes into the concrete, just brush it on, dry overnight no problem !  used it many times regards

Can you tile to it later

What if I wanted to seal the floor while I wait to get the funds to tile it?

You can seal it any time 4 to 1

But keep Off it till it dries as any

Whoever  tiles will seal it again

We normally ad SBR to each mix also

4 to 1 with what tempering there is ufh, confusing myself here.

Tiler will use p51 before tiling.

Interested in this as I about most likely having Cemfloor.

Technical Datasheet for Cemfloor :    https://cemfloor.co.uk/download/2641/

No information about sealing the floor - just says to lightly abrade the surface to clean off any building residue.

Have you tried calling them for advice?

I haven't asked my supplier because we had to have harsh words related to garage floor. I guess there is 4 factors to this:-

1. A sealer that is compatible to be used on cemfloor.

2. A sealer that will be long lasting to foot traffic.

3. A sealer that is compatible to a floor with UFH.

4. A sealer that will not be detrimental to tiling at a later stage or need significant remedial works before tiling.

The SBR recommendation has been posted many times on forums I read and suppliers I have talked to about such a task as you are doing. Interesting to learn that SBR is SBR, doesn’t matter what brand name is on the tub so go cheap as you can find?

I didn't do anything regarding sealing the floors.

Covered some with lino remnant.

Kitchen floor has been covered and is largely ok. It has been a little dusty but nowhere near as bad as traditional sand and cement.

Tile order going in this week.
