Rough costs for installing a phone line?

Our wee cottage has never had its own phone line- we just provide broadband via an extender from our own house. It's always been a temporary arrangement and I think it's about time we did something more robust.

Does anybody know off hand what the basic cost of getting a phone line installed would be? There is a BT pole and junction box on our land about 30m from the cottage.

£50 for a connection - it’s not done on distance unless they have to start putting poles in etc. 

 

If it’s all on your land, dig a trench for them and they will give you the duct for free.

Same here, we paid £50, had a pole in the corner of the plot and I'd already put in an underground cable that Openreach had provided as free issue (part of the left overs from relocating the old overhead cable).

When we were put in our water connection, our groundworks team arranged with BT and a reel of cable appeared.

 

It went into the trench and that was that. 

 

I'm yet to pay for an actual connection.

Yes, £50 for a new connection. And there is a good chance you will get that back.  It took Open Reach so long to actually make our connection, and find a working spare pair of cables all the way back to the exchange that I complained, and got the connection fee refunded by way of compensation for the delay.

Thanks everyone. Not often things come up cheaper than you expect! I thought it would cost a few hundred.

Brace yourself...not sure it's gonna be £50.  I was connected only 3 weeks ago and the bill was....£70!
