As the top stairs literally slide up over the bottom stairs it's almost asking for hydraulic automation. But alas it is only 'temporary / i.e. 2 years min. Will try and finish it tomorrow and even take a photo of me standing on it to prove it conforms to every safety standard known to man.

The beauty of self build. BC have no interest in any safety aspect what so ever within the site. So as long as nothing spills/falls/etc outside i.e. towards the public it's not an issue. Safety is actually quite important to me ( stop laughing! ) ; as it's just me everyday and I don't want to die yet.

Top half slides up over bottom half and will eventually lock in place Looks like an @Onoff monster Why did you cut them in half? Was it just not enough manpower to lift them whole? I’m going to use it all the time !! Any subbies to date have been using my outdoor rotting staircase- so this is far safer

Also I need them to be relatively mobile . I can’t manage a 90kg staircase up / down on my own safely. In 2 halves made getting it down there no problem and moving it in/out the stairwell a fairly quick job and safe !

Pocster
The more safety I add the less mobile they become . Tricky bit at top as you need to turn to exit staircase and change height . Feels acceptable to me going up the stairs - feels awkward coming down from the top. Can’t think of a better way of doing this . Still SWMBO will only fall once ☠️ Edited August 29, 2019 by pocster

Pocster
Did a ‘fudge’ step at the top - ‘feels ‘ better when walking down and round the top edge . Carpentry skills award ?
