Cleaning concrete before tiling

Our concrete is generally dirty (plaster, paint etc) any tips or chests for cleaning it before we tile?

I used a floor scraper and it made it fairly easy, two hands standing up.

In the bathroom I wire brushed the concrete floor then hoovered it before tiling.

Seal with two coats of SBR 

Leave overnight to dry

It's like pva on steroids. Looks ths same, smells different but is waterproof whereas ordinary pva isn't.

Interestingly on my Aquaseal tanking kit is says you can use Everbuild sbr if you haven't got the Aquaseal primer:

Ours wasn’t dirty just very dusty, just hoovered it all up then used the sbr applied straight
