We are rebuilding an old cottage and have only 120-130mm available for insulation underneath the UFH (probably in 55-65mm of liquid screed). What type of insulation, what suitable product, will give the most insulation? Thanks!

Our Willis heater based UFH doesn't seem to be working as advertised. The problem as far as I can see it is that the flow rates through the various UFH loops are nowhere near high enough and I can't get them any higher. We have a total of 11 loops and as I understand it the flow rate through the various UFH pipe loops should be 0.5 litre/min per 20m pipe, so for example one of our pipe runs is 90m long so it should have a flow rate of 2.25 litres/min. First question, is the above correct?

Currently have a 300 litre UVC ready for a heat pump to handle hot water + heating at a later stage but in the meantime like several others on the forum I would like to add a Willis heater between the manifold flow/return to run our UFH system. System is 3 x 100m loops all to be run as one zone in a 100mm screed. Wunda manifold is installed minus a pump at this stage. Wiring wise 3 core + earth from the stat is in place and power can be added from the plant room board easily. I would like to finalise and order the necessary components so if someone could advise if I've missed anything it would be greatly appreciated... Wilo manifold Pump from Wunda + Isolators Digital room thermostat (recommendations?) Willis jacket + immersion Timing Switch to ensure E7 use Electricians will fit all wiring and controllers but I supply everything. Possibly a 2 port valve as per @Nickfromwales recommendation in this thread but not sure if this is necessary? Trying to keep it as simple as possible at this stage.

Following on from a number of threads discussing electric UFH Can anyone recommend a particular make for 1.5m2 of under-tile electric UFH. The easy-to-get ones would be the Klima kits from Screwfix but I know nothing about them. Any other suggestions ? http://www.screwfix.com/p/klima-underfloor-heating-mat-kit-2m/54047

When people use overlay board instead of screed what is the best method of heat distribution for an UFH system assuming a build up of approximately 200mm insulation, 22mm Chipboard all bonded together? I'm considering this for our upper ground floor which is on beam and block and has an available depth of 240mm. Site access makes screeding quite challenging and a pumped option isn't within the budget. Further advantages are more depth for insulation and zero drying time but I need to get my head around the UFH components before deciding. Many thanks

Our upper ground floor is unusual in that it sits on both beam and block plus a small section of timber deck on posi joists. I'm quite keen to run a heat pump for UFH and need to make a final decision on floor make up. For the area on joists I'm happy either battening on the joists prior to laying the floor deck and fitting spreader plates or alternatively battening on top of the deck prior to laying the finished floor (engineered timber) again with plates. For the area above the B&B I'm less sure whether it would be beneficial to lay the piping in a screed to match the levels with the decked area or or to simply have a floating floor and spreader plates throughout. For reference the B&B area totals around 75m2 and the other 30m2. I suppose my question is essentially does UFH work significantly better when in a screed compared to a floating floor or are the differences negligible?

Another first fix question from me. You can tell I'm starting to triple check before boards start flying up! Ref UFH manifolds: Only one zone but as we're split level we have two manifolds. Upper one is in the plant room so no drama's there. Lower one is in the under-stairs cupboard. So far to the under-stairs manifold location I've run: 22mm feed and return 1.5mm 4 core for the pump power and control 1mm 2 core for the actuators Is that all I need? The room thermostat is actually on the CBUS network so that's CAT5 and independent to the heating system. The CBUS network will trigger a relay to signal for heat (actual system still not finalised so a bit woolly here!). I'm also wondering if it would be better to site both pumps in the plant room?

So after finally reviewing all quotes and deciding on begetube for our underfloor heating system supply.... the appear to have ceased trading this month after going into liquidation.... feel like I have dodged a bullet but puts me back to square one with the quotes.... although now that answers why they were so eager and why quote was so competitive! Any sugestions for supply only in Scotland appreciated.
