First fix is almost finished and I've spotted a couple of mistakes. They are not the electrician's mistakes. He followed the plans. These were wrong in places. Might need to move three double socket back boxes and two triple gang switches by 8cm or so in one direction and two wall lights by 8cm or so in one direction. Is that very fiddly? Will it ruin the plastering in that instead of having a nice solid wall to plaster, they will have to plaster over (presumably patched up) holes in the plasterboard?

Hi all I'm struggling a little on trying to plan ahead for when we get the shell handed over and start on the first fix. Whilst I'm getting to grips with what needs to happen, I'm not sure in which order particularly when they are separate (but possibly dependent on each other) Has anyone got advice on how they have approached this or resources used? I've got a growing spreadsheet of items to be addressed but ordering them is the next step

Trying to sort out how much I still have to do before I let my plasters in. Have no plumbing done as yet but wondering how much first fix needs done. House is a bungalow and all block walls not a stud in sight. I have 3 showers, a bath and basin with wall mounted taps so my thought is this is the only pipe that needs to go in now. How does this get done in plastic with no joints, do I end up with coils of pipe until later? BCO has already said he wants pipe work sandwiched in floor insulation but obviously I don't want plasters tramping over that constantly. Am I missing something blindingly obvious?

Just a point to ponder... Many commercial buildings I visit have exposed blockwork walls inside (gyms, galleries, studios etc). Either painted or some nicer facing blockwork. Often these have flush electrical accessories. So the electrical services must either be a)on the other face of the wall, b)between the skins of a cavity wall c)threaded up through hollow blocks or d)the 'exposed blockwork' is actually a fake cladding. Anybody got any experience of this... (c) especially? Where there is no clear delineation of wall construction/first fix... do the block layers thread flexi conduit in as they go? And how common are hollow blocks in this sort of setting? And are they often infilled afterwards? Thanks.

Ploughing through the FF (first-fix, first fix) electrics today. Met a very nice lady from a lesser know electrics chain. She likes to say Yesss. Anyway, looking through the catalogue I see Hager do a thing called Klik lighting So, what's more natural than searching BH for reference to it? Nada, nichts, nothing. However, there are some on here who'll know every last detail, every last reason why I should use it, and why not. This is what I was looking at The question is, should I use this system to run my 6A lighting circuits? Ian

Hi All My last first fix job is to run some 8core alarm cables to room corners, keypad locations etc. BUT, chatting to my sparky this week he said that it's now almost never done as the wireless systems have become so reliable. He said the only real need is a feed to the bell box and a fused spur for the control panel. I was just interested what others have done?

Starting first fix next week and just looking at finalising the cable etc. I've found a decent cable supplier who does Doncaster Cables at a good price but where is the best place to get back boxes ..? Where possible the plan is to fit them to noggins so I don't think I need many dry line ones. Are Appleby worth the extra ..? I'm assuming Tower are still the best clips on the market ..??
