Skill, I wonder how long before he is building a place in the country? Love the double decker idea. Not sure about the sleeper wall, though I like the look of it, I wonder at the foundations as they looked to be exposed when he started building, and the effect of wind on them.

I saw a lot of building activity earlier in the year. I can't think of any at the moment or in the last few weeks. Local to me are still trying to sell some of the new builds on a 17 property site and several old places still for sale, does not seem to be any demand for 2 bed properties in my area.
-
How do people convert barns in an AONB then, I used to drive by one every day that is being converted and many others about and new builds?
-
Have seen a scraggy maybe sheep pen or stables in an AONB. Have seen some people seem to be doing Class Q, but someone I met who is just outside the AONB and has done a class Q on a sheep pen said it would not be possible, in the AONB. What is the situation for doing them in these areas? Other thing is, I have not seen it close up yet, looks about the size of a 2 bed bungalow and next property to it, was a small bungalow that has been extended to about 4 times it's original size, still in the AONB. Looking at it from a distance I imagine the framework is rotten, I don't know for this area but have seen that in some they make you keep the original frame and only allow within the current size of the barn? Has water on site and was connected till recently, transformer just across the road, but I would like to go off grid anyway. Property is right on the border of the AONB.

Would they get planning? Braylsham did, but was that a special case?

Watched a video including that earlier, really have to be careful what you ask for and what you tell them especially in writing. It all keeps starting again and again....

Your's is a world away from the canning on Grand Designs.

Only thing I have seen in the way of settlement that I can remember is sagging at the bottom, a bit of a beer belly. They were either done right or not, but it should be the cheapest method, that is why it has been used in eastern europe etc. It is obviously a good waterproof finish, but where I was it was the cheapest option to cover a roof and seen as that. This seems to be the cheapest material they use and is mentioned in the info above, thicker material suffers less from it.

I would not knock them down, not yet. When were they last applied for as I was under the impression that class Q was loosened up a lot a few months back. But others here will know for sure. No buildings no class Q, no planning permission. How many acres, if more than 12.5, there maybe other approaches you could make?

Last I remember seeing any was in my Grans house a long time ago, other than that I think I have seen them with the retro wiring system we were looking at a few years back.

It was an intelligence test at school, left over from the days when they had taught it, bit pointless when nobody was! How many people have round pins these days?

2.5 million you could have more land than you'd know what to do with. With the two other areas in the photo it would be OK, but he already owns next door, so guess he is going to sell that and imagine if someone builds on those two fields. Setting is something when you are in the countryside surely.

Having watched it, I actually quite like it and some of the ideas, but not the materials. The cladding started off smooth but has not aged well. I have seen a lot of this type of cladding in eastern europe, so it always reminds be of soviet utility buildings, but the old stuff was Emu Brand from Wolverhampton, over a hundred years old and still doing its job, though the coating has turned to rust or has been painted now. They should be able to do it without rippling, but guess they are still learning how to use it here. I do not understand with such a huge budget why you would squeeze it onto such a small plot in comparison to it's size?

It is the condensation in the walls that came to mind, I should have said. But looking through the photos the process had started long before it was covered up. Watched a video from a chap in Scotland who is a surveyor, building his own house and he warned about these with this kind of framing, he just had to fix one that was just ten years old. Had to take out the bottom 2 feet all the way around because it had rotted. Depends on the climate zone he was saying.
-
I look at the photos and condensation comes into my mind, but I have not seen the programme so do not know if that was solved somehow?

Any news on the Bunker?
-
He must be very old now, it was nearly 40 years ago I was there. I will have a look later through this.

Many Years ago I was on Raasay, and some chap up there has made his own road, did not get to that end, was always fascinated with the islands as a boy and then a few years ago found out some of my ancestors were from the Hebrides! Came across this thread because I saw some interesting Reservoirs for sale and wondered if any one had done one on here, This bunker thing is great, really great and Off Grid is the way to go, marvellous.

When i was in Latvia, the farmers used to use it on roadways, over here they used to soak it and throw it on fires....

Has to go to Peterborough? I thought it could be disposed of by the local council sites if it bagged up correctly?

This is hypothetical, I may go the OPD route in Wales, but this Q seems to be about the only way in England. So here is a place, either building would suit me as a project, the stone one is bigger than it looks in the photos from what I can see on the satellite and the Barn looks big enough to do 2 proper floors but the roof pitch is a bit ugly. Both seem to be hard against the border... Land for sale in Lot C - Chewton Hill, Chewton Mendip, BA3 (rightmove.co.uk)
-
Long Barrow and Tumulus about 120 metres from the structures.
-
Just looking at something a little similar, a dutch barn and there is a stone building also, but in the same field are 2 archaeological features, so I guess it would be difficult or would they not matter as there are existing buildings?

Just caught a few comments on here as it came up when looking for One Planet Development. Agriculture in the UK makes money? I do know when I lived in Latvia farmers incomes were completely dependant on handouts from the EU and simply put, no way they were economic or profitable. So defining the right to build on a given piece of land being agriculturally profitable seems bizarre. Many farmers in Wales currently seem to be trying to cash in, selling poor land for high prices to people trying to do the OPD thing, seems a great many buyers are getting permission too. I understand there is a financed push from government to try to get farmers to retire, I guess in the hope of cutting down on paying lots of benefits to keep farms going. So it maybe that we see more OPD across the country, but farms without being given benefits in this country would be about 10% or less, of current units, from what I was taught when I was doing Ag.

I'm sold on a borehole (or the like) then, if we manage to find the right place.....
