This is one of the rooms that the original plasterer did - this is the right way, right?? it sure hecks looks much better than the dot dab ceiling! I'm still unsure if the dot guy will come back and trouble ensues...It is very unnerving.

get a similar door to cut a cat flap into that? why? But in terms of changing the doors, this has been considered, but they are super heavy doors, wood. And putting them back in place has proved difficult in the past. -

i see, but it can still be done right? cat flap? it is a pretty solid door, but perhaps thinner in the panel area like you say -
no, elderly people and pets live here. The house has been upside for nearly a year as it is. I asked the original plasterer today and he said no need to brander. Just plasterboard up and screwed into joists then skim

Hi All, I wondered if you could advise. I am hoping to put a cat flap on an internal door, so the cat can come and go as they please without pushing the door wide open or we having to leave the door open for them to come and go, as it is drafty! Only thing is, the door in question, one side has no panels, but the other is 4 panels (one big at top and 3 vertical panels on the lower end). Is it possible to fit one one given the said panels? photo included.

thanks for your advice. this seems very confusing and I do not understand it fully. We have another bathroom guy coming next week to have a look, where I will tell him my concerns, but I don't want to be in a position where he will just say I need this and that, or whatever, just whatever results with a higher invoice for me. I noted that that vent in the toilet that was there before, has been plasterboarded and tiled over. It was a long time ago and memory doesn't serve everyone well, but I distinctly remember there being one and looking at the photo you can see one outside near the pipes! vindication!

hi, Yes, said dot dab was normal and OK, stuck on and would NOT come down. ButI had to go with my gut and also all the good advice here. I think even if I asked him to screw it in, i would not feel the rest of the work would be up to standard - I'm paying for expertise, and for me to tell him to screw it in, does not constituent as expertise. The plasterboard he stuck on with the dot dabs have now been removed. Peace of mind restored for now.

thank you for your advice

is lath bad??? I think I do have lath, i posted a photo previously?
-
some parts have some cracks, you see. like the photo, so I thought best to have it boarded first then skimmed. I'll ask my original plasterer when he comes round
-
glad my situation tickles someone!

ceiling with the dot dab plasterboard removed

i've never had to do this before, will this send shivers down his spine? how does this process work? will i get backlash??
-
question now is, what if he seeks payment for work/bodge work done and materials used?
-
ahh, thanks for clarifying this. I asked him to remove and he said this is standard procedure when you cannot screw into joists and was not amused I listen to others over his many years of experience said he will try his best to remove but insisted it is stuck solid, and will not fall down after explaining my concerns.
-
i see. but he hasn't stuck them up in sheets, he stuck them up in smaller rectangles. sorry, this is all very confusing for me. It might make sense to you, but not for me They picked up their materials and they are not happy, but still being polite and said they have been doing this for years and that the only option was to stick it. As they cannot screw it in - this is the first time they have mentioned they cannot do this with screws. I'm trying to keep this civil, as I think he is.
-
thanks Mark. Yes, but it could be pulling down the original ceiling which adds to the weight and I have elderly people in the house and it might seriously injure a pet This entire thing has been a shit show and I grow tired of these cowboys, but I don't know until it is too late.
-
that is true, but if it kills someone, or something, it is on me if I leave it up?
-
thanks Super John. it is difficult when I think i have done my due diligence and read reviews and still select the bad egg. I have new fitted wardrobes coming in next week and now I am dreading that! hoping it won't be a shit show!

yes, i had asked him to overboard and skim, then skim all the walls. Never would of guessed he doing what he be doing!!
