  1. Single Oven integrated mounted in Tall enclosure, can not decide which is best, Pro's and Con's for both welcomed
  2. I need to get the 110mm waste pipe through the beam and block floor that is on piles so there is around 500mm between bottom of block and ground level. Do I just drill a hole wide enough for the 110mm waste pipe and then seal the DPM around it, cut PIR around the pipe and then have the liquid screed poured so that it seals round the pipe or should I install a 125mm pipe and PIR and screed around that. I would then be able to insert the 110mm waste through the 125mm pipe and seal that so that if it ever needed replacing it will not need the screed, PIR and DPM to be repaired.
  3. Why do all the designs I have seen run the pipes as what I understand is is called Single Serpentine, rather than the Double Serpentine or Concentric Layout. To me Single layout doesn't seem to distribute the heat evenly or is there so little change in water temperature from when it enters to leaves a loop?
  4. I need to bring the water mains above ground to run under the house that is on piles, 500mm between ground and Beam and Block, from my understanding reading Anglian Water information I have to provide 100mm ducting from before the start of the house and run it the full length to where the pipe enters the house and install insulation in the ducting. I only need 8 metres to be insulated and ducted but looking at the flexible blue ducting it is only sold in 50 metre lengths online. Has anyone experienced local supplier selling it by the metre rather than 50 metre roll. I know that some ducting pipe is sold in 3 and 6 metre lengths but it is rigid and impossible to bend and I will need to bend it through at least 45-60 degrees in approximately 300mm radius. What insulation have you used and the thickness of the insulation, any recommended web sites to purchase it from. What solutions have people used that has been accepted by their water supplier.
  5. Both will be fitted to toilets, shower and sink waste will be connected inside the house to the same pipes. I have to had a chamber as building control said that two toilet wastes can not be connected by just using a Y connector
  6. We had to paint on fire protection on to our cladding, it was a pain as we had to put two coats of fire protection to gain the 30 minute required. Had to do it by hand with a roller and then brush it to get a smooth finish. Also whichever fire protection paint you use make sure the cladding will meet the fire requirements, we had to have interlocking wood cladding, featheredge was not suitable as most do not interlock and fire can sneak through the gaps, it also has to be a minimal thickness at the thinnest part of the cladding. We also had to use fireboard instead of OSB on the outside of the timber frame. Can you use cement board cladding as this has a class 0 rating, we couldn't due to where we are and planning only allow wood cladding.
  7. Trying to plan my sewer connection, after watching some youtube videos I thought I had it worked out but speaking to building control he said I couldn't have any tight 90 degree angles, they had to be 45 degrees or wide sweeping 90 degree angles. I have come up with a design that has one of the wide sweeping 90 degree bends angled on its side at 45 degrees and then a 45 degree bend so that it can take a pipe vertically into it. Any comments as to if this would be an acceptable solution or and other ideas please.
  8. First, sorry, drawing is not one of my best skills. Electric is installed and the waste has two pipes vertically out of the ground near the manhole for the waste to be connected to. The waste needs to run along where the dark blue lines are shown. What I need to know is where do I need to fit entry access if blockage ever needs to be cleared. The waste pipe in the property is shown by the large blue circles (not to scale). The property is on stilts so there is around 500mm between the block and beam floor and the ground level. Is there such a waste pipe that is flexible as to ground does sink over time so using fixed pipes it would eventually need replacing with longer pipe. How deep do I need to put the waste at ? Any suggestions as to the route the water pipe should run, can it be placed in the same trench as the waste and is there a minimal distance apart. Is it ok to run the water pipe above ground for around 4 metres if it is insulated and if it can, what insulation can I use. Waste Plan Ver 5.pdf
  9. Hi, looking for views as to best heating solution. We are building an 'Upside-Down' House, bedrooms downstairs, living room and kitchen upstairs. We are having Gas Combi-Boiler and was initially considering having all radiators, but now wondering if UFH can be downstairs and either radiators or UFH upstairs. We have limited height upstairs 1.7 metres at edge of rooms and 22mm chipboard has already been laid on the web joists so this cannot be removed. If we are to have UFH upstairs what is the best way to install that will take up minimal height, will be laying laminate floor throughout 1st floor. Has anyone mixed UFH and radiators, does it work well?
  10. We didn't have boreholes as there are other properties around and the piles were al around 12 metres. The piling company we used had done most of the other piling so knew the area well. Our piles all ended up being between 11-13 metres so were not far off the 12 metre expectation.
  11. The Meter box has now been installed and Npower have installed the cable and the 3 fuses for our three phase supply. I have ordered a meter from Eon, not sure if it will be single or three phase, but we only need a single phase to start with. We are looking at having the fuse box approx 8 metres of cable run away from where the meter will be located so I understand I need an Isolator switch. Has anyone had this setup and can the isolator switch be in the same meter box or is a separate box required and if a separate box is required does it have to be externally or internally located.
  12. Just had quotes from Cadnet, 3 metres along private road to edge of our premises £595.00, For another £180 they have said they would lay 4 metres on my property and supply surface mount box. Made the payment and just hope they still to it as they are now going to do a survey, surely it would make sense to do the survey first and get the price correct. Any else had a quote and then had it changed after a survey or been left at the same price even after they have seen the amount of work they need to do.
  13. We have just had 3 phase installed to the 'large' external wall box. I now have an MPAN issued by Npower. So do I now apply to any energy supplier and ask for 3 phase meter or are there only a limited number of suppliers who can offer this. Will I have to pay more for the install or day rate for a 3 phase meter. I only need a single phase feed at present, 3 phase was installed as future proof, can they just install a single phase meter.
  14. We have been told we need a 35Kw combi boiler and looking for recommendations as to which make to buy. We will have traditional radiator central heating and 2 showers off the gas boiler. Would appreciate any feedback on remote controlled boilers, are they worth it.
  15. We are having the electric installed at the same time a sewer install. UK power charge for Three phase is £1445 for planning etc and £221 for 13 metres of trunking and cable so approx £17.00 per metre. It does seem cheap so not sure if they have made a mistake. Are you having a recessed or surface mount cabinet. We had to have surface mount and their supplier for East Anglia wanted £428 for the cabinet, managed to find on 20mm smaller than their spec but planner said will be ok for £238. Hockey stick is the problem, UK power have asked for white 50mm but they are not available so I have asked UK power to supply this item and looks like it will be Black so should be interesting on the day. Install due 27th August so will let you know how it all goes
  16. Hi, Been looking for secondhand scaffolding but not finding any local so thought about buying new scaffolding. Need it for accessing front of house soffits so will need it t be 7 metre high standing so plus any height for guard rails. Also want to use it for 3 metre platform to get to ceiling at top of sloping roof. Looking for recommendations as to best type to purchase and how much I should expect to pay
  17. Tried Jewsons and Signa but they were not interested in offering a decent price. Search on line gave some good prices and then pushed for them to beat the competition and have got Cellotex 80mm at £34.00 and 100mm at 38.00 prices + VAT. Free Shipping.
  18. Is there a minimal distance that Coax and Cat5/6 has to run from mains cable and any rules regarding crossing of cables at 90 degrees
  19. Hi, Sorry what I meant was different view as to fixing to the plasterboard before of after the plastering
  20. Pro's and Con's of boxes and mounting method please. We have 47mm service void on external walls and will be using 9mm plaster board. Internal timber frame is 89mm depth, again plus 9mm plaster board. All want to use plasterboard boxes, two want to fix the boxes prior to plaster and one after walls are plastered. Interested to know if anyone has had any other type of boxes fitted and the Pro's and Con's for each solution.
  21. UK power have stated white required on their 'To Do List', so I contacted UK power and they said they will supply the Hockey Stick on the install day. So Paid £23.00 and then received invoice and it states Black. Have advised them that told had to be White but looks like Black will be provided but no response, should be interesting on the day. We have to have a surface mounted box and searching it seems black is for recessed units.
  22. Hi, I'm looking for 40 sheets of PIR 100mm and 40 sheets of 25mm insulation for the roof, are there any makes I should avoid. Can anyone point me to where they have found the best price recently and the product used. Will be looking for 150mm PIR floor insulation but not yet, again any recommendations as to what to use / not use. Why are there so many different products from each manufacture, all seem to have the .022 uValue
  23. Hi, We are having Three Phase installed and UK Power have stated that we need a 50mm White Hockey Stick. I have searched everywhere and cannot find the item anywhere. Even companies advertising Three Phase meter boxes only offer 38mm Hockey Sticks. Has anyone found a 50mm Hockey stick. Has anyone used 38mm, was this a problem with the Three Phase cable
  24. Hi, I purchased mine from Roofing Megastore, just search 'dry verge'
