  1. I'm so happy with my setup right now. this was yesterday where I managed to get 104 miles in to the car and then fully charge my 6.4kWh battery storage. you can see where the solar PV dropped off the battery kicked in to keep charging the car (I have a Hypervolt EV charger) and then at around 3pm the car finished charging and so the batteries started charging while also exporting quite a bit to the grid. I'm hoping that once we actually move in to the house we'll self consume more but it's working well at the moment, even with the batteries in the basement!
  2. interesting that you don't think the OSB has made a difference as it's quite a large expense to board out with OSB first! maybe I'll compare 15mm plasterboard costs with 9mm OSB and 12.5mm plasterboard
  3. I presume the builder didn't fit any sort of Rockwool in the internal walls to reduce the hollow echo chamber effect?
  4. you're having those awesome twin stud wall (I believe called Larsen truss?) which I presume is being filled with some form of cellulose pumped in? if so, why have you not considered a passive insulated slab? would get rid of all of your thermal bridge concerns at the slab level.
  5. our mineral wool filled TF will be lined with 9mm OSB and then 12mm plasterboard to give it a solid feel. again, best guess as I have no real experience of this but others seem to think it'll give the walls that 'solid' feel. not sure if going to 12.5mm OSB will be any added benefit though?
  6. Think I’ve been a member here long enough to know that threads go off topic quite a bit sometimes! 😂
  7. 110mm bits ordered from SF, free before midday next day delivery! quality. 🙂 maybe I can get started tomorrow after all
  8. that's the plan, but going to do the waste/soil pipe first and then I can run the hep2o around that to make sure it all fits in my service voids. one step at a time
  9. when I've started you'll get your photos don't you worry. gotta place the order for materials first! will probably end up starting on Monday.
  10. maybe it's just for plumbing stuff then. for my Siberian larch timber cladding they couldn't be beaten on price and that was even without me negotiating! beat the usual cladding suspects like Silva hands down.
  11. I guess I'll stick with Floplast from Screwfix then. no one has said don't use Floplast so I guess it's all much the same stuff.
  12. nope! 31 miles to the nearest one.
  13. I usually get good prices from them. Out of the 3 BMs I have accounts with I use Jewson the most as they seem to beat the others on most things!
  14. I have a credit account with them and they’re usually very competitive. I did price up at drainagepipe.co.uk ( they’re a Floplast stockist) but they worked out more expensive than SF for Floplast.
  15. the quotes are in for my initial 110mm pipe work. SF and Toolstation (Floplast and Aquaflow respectively) are about the same in price but Polypipe from Jewson is more than double the cost! is Polypipe really that much better or are Jewson just poor in their pricing for these products? if there's no real difference in manufacturer then I'll go with either Floplast or Aquaflow depending on availability and costs. @PeterW mentioned on page 3 that the TS Aquaflow stuff is pretty decent. anyone else got any comments on a Floplast vs Aquaflow subject?
  16. great tip! thank you and added to shopping list another great tip. added to my notes. will check out the Kilmat stuff as well for where it's needed.
  17. I bought a Festool saw. Expensive but made light work of mineral wool and PIR. I grew to hate the job simply for the time it’s taken us. I’ve saved money but if I got the TF company to do it we’d probably be in a finished house by now. 😢
  18. if I was building again I wouldn't do the insulating myself as it's a ball ache and very slow! I'd pay the extra and go for something like this: https://www.mbctimberframe.co.uk/passive-house/passive-house-technical-detail/ other companies offer similar but blown cellulose would be my choice if I could have my time over again. I'm really really really sick of insulating now. 😂
  19. my initial soil waste design. it's quality back of fag packet stuff. 😂
  20. ok, found this on an online supplier website: When installing 110mm PVC soil pipes, clips should be used a 1.8m centres vertically and 1m centres for horizontal pipe runs. does everyone concur with those centres?
  21. another question.... ....how frequently does 110mm soil pipe need to be supported with pipe clips?
  22. is this what one would consider a proper tin of silicone grease? https://www.screwfix.com/p/floplast-lubricant-gel-800g/10631
  23. interesting that they're cheaper than the 22mm shears (https://www.screwfix.com/p/rothenberger-rocut-28-pex-0-22mm-manual-pex-pipe-shears/7320j) and substantially cheaper than the 42mm shears (https://www.screwfix.com/p/rothenberger-rocut-42tc-0-42mm-manual-plastic-pipe-shears/65326) although the 42mm ones state 'ratchet assisted' so maybe I shouldn't be cheap and should get the top of the range ones?
  24. these any good? https://www.screwfix.com/p/rothenberger-rocut-38-0-38mm-manual-plastic-pipe-shears/48561
  25. but what happens (even with the black tiger) when you go back a day/week/month later and realise you've messed up and need to move a branch. you have to cut out and piece it all back together again, no? at least with push fit you can remove, cut and replace
