  1. The all other walls are cavity walls filled with EPS beads, and I’m going for triple glazing as I intend to live here for a very long time, not for a a financial return. I like the window seat idea @Radian, thanks!
  2. Hello, I’m looking to insulate my bay window which I’ve take back to brick to find a stone curved cill. The bay window is double brick, no cavities unlike the rest of the house. I’m planning to have triple glazing throughout the house, but I’m unsure of how to tackle insulating the bay window, especially when it comes to the stone cill as that’s surely a massive cold bridge. Any suggestions?
  3. No idea yet, all will be revealed in the coming days! 😊
  4. I'm also about to go for the Ecological Building Systems approach to doing my suspended timber floors, https://www.ecologicalbuildingsystems.com/post/best-practice-approach-insulating-suspended-timber-floors and have just bought all the materials from Latzel in Germany (very efficient and prompt!).
  5. On the ventilation side under the sub floor, could you block the existing ventilation grate as it seems to be above the joists (perhaps that's the camera angle?) and install a number of telescopic vents across the external walls? https://www.screwfix.com/p/telescopic-underfloor-vent-black-220mm-x-215mm/12025?tc=GB2&ds_rl=1249404&gclid=CjwKCAjw1MajBhAcEiwAagW9MTRe19xMEgqXejvA3sjAJjfDdA4wfrH0MDBMF0D0CHKGi1uAmux9nxoCuXcQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
  6. +1 for Latzel, German VAT refunded next day. Ordered Tuesday evening and arrived Saturday morning. Amazing service and a bonus on the price which was easily a third cheaper than the UK suppliers.
  7. Hello, Long time lurker, I’m about to start renovating my 1930s semi and I’ve just found out I’ve got check reveals for my window reveals. They previously have been covered over with joinery that sounded hollow, it also explains why all the existing windows let so much noise through. The reveal is about 35mm wide, and I was originally looking at Rationel windows but I’m really not sure if it would work with such a slim frame style. Any ideas on what suppliers frames would work best, or indeed can frames be ‘packed out’ to fill most of the reveal and leave the slim frame lines on show externally? I’m after decent 3G windows that don’t cost the earth. FYI the window in the photo was recently installed, hence finding out about the reveals during installation and thankfully we only did that window.
  8. We’ve had mice recently and a few years ago, I use one of these baited with peanut butter. Highly effective. https://www.screwfix.com/p/pest-stop-plastic-metal-battery-powered-mouse-killer/45407
  9. New poster here! I’ve had EPS bead cavity wall insulation installed in my 1930s semi earlier this year and so far it’s made a world of difference for the better. So much warmer, and more noticeably is that it is quieter in the house, especially when it’s windy. Only downside is that as the walls are all warm (great!) it’s shown the very poor quality install of the French doors in our dining room up as the lower edges are starting to go mouldy (always been cold in there since we bought the place). I’m getting them removed, bricking it up a bit and putting a quality window in.
