Not sure if these are the only supplier. https://www.discreteheat.com/thermaskirt/products-and-information/what-is-thermaskirt.aspx The Guy I spoke to was nice regarding info. It strikes me that if a house in insulation terms is near passive, them upstairs at the least the heating option is really only there for extreme weather situations and occasional variations. To that end the skirt options seems quite reasonable as it's discrete and the cost (albeit maybe not a lot of it) can be offset against the skirting you probably would have had anyway. ...but I am the forum dunce so just cover me in Jam and leave me at the back....

righteeo - thanks for the answer - to start combining questions from the other threads a little. Where you did that small piece, how long did it take you? Would you still batten and then counter batten with the steel, so in a situation where you might use sarking would the order be; sarking, battens, felt, counter battens, tiles?? How long did it take you to do the bit you saw there? I'm probably miles off but I would say maybe 3 X 3.5m2? What if you wanted to use normal PV panels and not their integrated system? Would you just have to use wooden battens where the solar was then switch back to this where necessary? gassssssp - and breath

When they spend some money on their advertising budget, they should set some aside for a comma key on their keyboards!

Thanks @PeterStarck. What was the benefit to you? from what few YT bits i've seen it looks like speed is the benefit.I mean, how long did what I see in front of me there, take to get decked out once all the 'battens' were attached?

A retired roofer meets Nulok. Too delicious.

price, speed?? if you have PV do you still use the steel battens instead of wood or just use the steel where the slates are involved? -

soooooo - What are the benefits so far as you guys see it over normal batten and slate? -
Is nu-lok that system which uses metal rails instead of normal wooden battens and the 'slates' clip into place?

energy... I stand to be corrected.

Check these chaps out. I haven't looked at any of their docs for a while but I think it was somewhere near bedford they used this for a development of small houses, the foundations that is. https://dbgholdings.com/cemfree/ The laymans description they gave to me was something like - 'You just use GGBS entirely instead of Cement and use the CEmfree product which does the magic inbetween'. I know nothing about the Chemistry (cue @JSHarris) but in principal sounds interesting -

We are going to play the provider hop cashback game probably starting around June ourselves. Currently with Bulb and will likely end up back with them come the end of the game. If therefore anyone wants to forward me their link for any providers, where we both get some sort of incentive, feel free to inbox me.

@JSHarris. To further look at your concrete use as described above. Do you know if the company you used had any measure of GGBS or Fly ash in the mix. I don't have the document to had which quotes the figures but if I remember correctly GGBS, in a state such that is can be directly compared to OPC for immediate addition to a cement mix, saves something like 800kg of CO2 per tonne of the product. One supplier I spoke to - think it was CEMEX - said they often use up to 50% substitute for OPC in smaller domestic projects. -

I have thought for some time there needs to be a seperate term which describes the Environmental Capability so to speak. an EC rating if you will. So you have not only sustainability but EC also -
Framin' ridiculous innit?

I will watch this later - thank you. that 'Extra' stud, could you add that afterwards easily enough if you forgot to put it in place originally. It looks like a yes, but I wanted to check. -
Comical EPC thingy
Big Neil replied to Russell griffiths's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Is it a completely dunce thing to think that it's ok to have a ASHP that is deliberately over-sized for the application, to allow some degree of redundancy. Is it NIBE (possibly all) that have a variable power consumption depending on load? @JSHarris I will take a peak at your blog later to gen up, but since trying to figure out a suitable layout, i always think back to your setup and think roughly 'sunamp+ASHP = bigger ASHP'. If that makes any sense? -
Should I fit solar panels
Big Neil replied to Russell griffiths's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
ahh- i was close - jiggling around on the bus. I think there's a reasonable case to be made IF: You put tons of it on your roof Have battery backup consider it as like a standard roof covering like tiles (so replace one if it gets broken) Have an electric car ride an electric bike don't have gas fitted yto your house at al Divert to a hot water cylinder etc etc PLus if the house is one you ight consider selling, it could have that halo effect. Bare oak stairs don't change the functionm they just add to the actual and perceived quality i think. There was a maybach covered in Swarovski crystals some years pack. Totally pointless but certainly helped the value even if there wasn't a practical benefit. -

I think you're probably right @ProDave. The terraces of Salford are probably quite a good example in some areas. It would be fascinating so see how much a row off langworthy would cost to throw up (as it were) in one of the techniques we talk about here. -
Comical EPC thingy
Big Neil replied to Russell griffiths's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
still seems to me like incentivising mediocrity. If the answer to our energy issues is to have houses and other buildings which are more energy efficient, lets knock down that old rathole and throw up a polystyrene box in it's place (so to speak) -

I've been told that a number of times. What's next - a fuel incentive for gas guzzlers? It's beyond a joke. -

Big Neil replied to Russell griffiths's topic in General Self Build & DIY Discussion
Not quite what I meant. I'm just talking about offsetting costs there. Raw materials seem to be something like 5 X more I'm that particular example
