Site security cameras and progress report
PaulD replied to Canski's topic in Networks, AV, Security & Automation
Yep this is what I use, the motion detection doesn’t seem to work too well tbh … -
Another vote for Starlink, have you looked into it ?

Can’t see any reason why we can’t talk about location and specific suppliers here ? I am in the process of placing an order for Internorm through Spectrum in Newport, Shropshire…. So far very impressed with showroom and pre-sales process. Any other experiences of Spectrum.

Poured Resin Floor finished and a definite success!!!
PaulD replied to IanR's topic in General Flooring
Looks incredible, I've been doing a lot of research on resin for our very large open plan living area of our class Q. Definitely seems to be getting more popular and some of these contractors are doing some crazy stuff (check out gafflowresinfinishes on Instagram. £75 seems quite reasonable compared to other floor coverings, thanks for the detail and pics ! -
Thanks guys, if we put the cost to one side, yes I agree I've seen plenty of concrete driveways to agri buildings, I'm sure there'd be a case. That said if I could find some MOT solution that was smooth to drive on, needed little maintenance and didn't develop holes after a little use then I'd probs go down this route. Just wondered if anyone had done anything clever like the mesh mats that stop the surface deterioarting over time.

Hi all, I have a class Q with a 500m "track" to the main road. I'm told that I can't just put down a tarmac or concrete driveway and that it has to be "in keeping" with agricultural use, actually the first 50m or so is tarmac but this services a couple of other properties, after that it's basically a limestone track with grass growing down the middle ! which is only used by the class Q. Which I guess is fine if we were driving LR Defenders or agri vehicles, but we're not ... so what's the best, most stable drive/road material we can put down and still likely to comply with class-Q guidance. Yes, I could informally ask the council I know but thought I'd come here first ! To see if anyone has any real world experience ? Maybe I should have posted this under driveways, but it is a planning question also ? <mod can I post in both ?>

@Simplysimon thanks for reply, just to clarify, you suggest steel ibeam ? or engineered timber ? Really hoping you say timber, sorry for my stupidity ! Any suggested supplier/manufacturer ? - Staffordshire if location is relevant.

30m x 15m Steel frame barn Class Q .... 5 bays with 4 stanchions down the centre every 6 metres Need to create mezzanine and was planning on block wall running entire length inbetween stanchions Therefore have 7.5m spans either side, I've been told steels wont span (or won't be straighforward), traditional timber obviously won't Be looking into iJoists or Easi Joist - www.easijoist.com Hope this makes sense - anyone have any real world experience or advice ?

Hi, currently in the early stages of a 4/5 bedroom Class Q in the middle of nowhere in rural Staffordshire. Looked at Klargester, but heard bad reports about too many moving parts and issues. Heard good things about Vortex. I don't claim to be anywhere knowledgeable in this area, so apologies in advance ... Here's a bit of info - Got lots of space in surrounding fields and drainage ditches nearby I think I'm right in saying I can go straight into a drainage ditch and don't need a drainage field Is there a solution out there which can cope with stuff like baby wipes, even though it might need emptying ultimately ? Is there a solution which is more tolerant of bleaches and cleaning products etc I think I'm right in saying that all these treatment plants require power ? Looking for a very quiet solution, less noise the better ! Any real world advice most welcome, thanks in advance.

Thank you everyone for the comments and replies. I've decided to go off grid with a solar/battery powered gate and 4G intercom/camera. Thanks again !
-
@PeterW ... great advice thank you .... yes I've seen solar solutions for remote farm gates ... that might be a consideration ... guess it depends how the figures stack up. What cable would be required for a 1 Amp trickle charge I wonder over 700m ?
-
I've got a 700m run to an electric gate and been advised by the gate company they need 6 amps and to run a 6mm armoured 3 core cable. Obviously cost of this cable length is £££, could I run 6mm for say 400m and then 2.5mm for the final 300m to reduce cost ? Yes I know this is probably a question for an electrician but any advice would be welcome.

Thanks for the comments regarding off grid @Nickfromwales I was going to spend some time looking into it ... sounds like Imy time would be better spent pursuing a better priced "on grid" solution. I'm told that over 500m isn't suitable for LV runs but I'm no expert .. thank you to everyone for their comments. It does sound like underground then up to a single pole/transformer, then back down underground for the final LV stretch could be the way to go. Made enquiries with a couple of other providers so will see what they come up with. Had this with Western Power in the past, and ended up going through a company called Connections 2 Energy - https://www.connections2energy.co.uk/ @Bonner the non-contestable was £3500 and contestable £37.5K !!

Hi, first post here ... I've got a large four bedroom class Q in rural Derbyshire. Nearest connection point to the High Voltage network is around 600 metres away. I own all the land inbetween. Western Power have sent a quote through, and well, it was a little higher than expected ! (in excess of £40K) ... They want to go overhead with poles with a pole mounted transformer. I'd actually be happier to go underground, and would have done all the trench work, and put cable/ducting in myself to save costs, but Western Power said this would increase costs considerably due to them installing a ground mounted transformer. The majority of the cost was "contestable" so I can get a third party to do this work ... does anybody have any first hand experience of anybody who can quote for this work ? ... I guess the other option is going "off grid" with solar/battery and a backup generator, decisions decisions ... any ideas anyone ?
