LPG boiler exhaust airflow is continuous.
epsilonGreedy replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in Boilers & Hot Water Tanks
I will check again for the pilot light but the exhaust airflow I am referring to is driven by a fan I reckon. Would I be correct in thinking that after a burn cycle, forced exhaust ventilation of the boiler should switch off after a few minutes? -
The industry definition of a nice firm floor is different to the expectation of demanding selfbuilders. Another poster here has previously advised specifying a more challenging max deflection limit when ordering floor joists.
-
A Gassafe chap commissioned the boiler in my static caravan earlier this week which now feels like a home rather than a refuge. Everything seems good from a heating point of view except there is a warm exhaust airflow that runs for hours including periods when no gas is burning. Is this normal? I ask because the cumulative heat loss must be costly. Temperature regulation of the radiators and combi hotwater seems good. The Worcester 24i boiler is of unknown age and there were multiple cases of frost related damage discovered when mains water was connected to the caravan. I have not found a room thermostat.

ASHP and SunAmp cheaper than Oil tank? Confused
epsilonGreedy replied to Roz's topic in Other Heating Systems
I asked a question about end-of-contract tank ownership complications and was told there is an industry agreed tank valuation formula which is applied when a new LPG supplier is selected by a householder at the end of the statutory 2 year supply period. Is this what you mean by an "uplift charge"? If you suspect the current favourable tank supply terms are a transient loss leader maybe I should act quickly because bulk tank LPG is about 35% cheaper than bottled gas and would represent a saving of a few hundred £ heating the static caravan for 18 months. On the other side of the coin I would prefer to delay and see how much further air source heating installation costs fall. -
ASHP and SunAmp cheaper than Oil tank? Confused
epsilonGreedy replied to Roz's topic in Other Heating Systems
I was using LPG Direct info obtained when you first mentioned them to me 6 months ago. In a call today it was confirmed underground tank installation is £250 in a pre prepared hole. Annual tank rental is £70. £0.375 per liter fixed for 6 months of the 2 year contract. Defo the cheapest off mains gas new build setup cost but I have no idea how many years it takes before hi tech options pay back their setup cost premium. -
Minimum bend radius of 25mm MDPE water pipe.
epsilonGreedy replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in General Plumbing
That is consistent with the radius of the delivered coil, thanks for the guidance. As delivered the 50m coil diameter was 900mm = 450 bend radius = 18x pipe diameter. In the end I used a 2m section to test the tightest bends through the foundation trenches, it was simpler to route the pipe than the maths indicates. -
I need to route some MDPE water pipe around the outside of my footing trenches to the static caravan. Given the cold weather can someone suggest a reasonable bend radius at a 90 degree corner? The current air gap between footing blockwork and mud trench wall is 120mm.

ASHP and SunAmp cheaper than Oil tank? Confused
epsilonGreedy replied to Roz's topic in Other Heating Systems
I am pursuing the same low upfront cost plan as the Op and suggest it would be worth inviting an LPG supplier onsite to propose where a tank could be located. I am budgeting for: £250 tank supply and fit in prepared hole. My man with his digger should excavate that in 4 hours, £100 Muck away in small skip say £130 Concrete floor in hole £ ? £1300 Worcester 38CD combi boiler All ex. VAT -
I did not want a roof height stack because I did not want the associated the hassle and screw holes of supporting the stack hence the plan for a short external stack at about toilet seat height.
-
@PeterStarck yes mine looks the same but in black. Can you see a part number? My box says BS487.
-
I have looked in daylight, nothing to be seen. Will keep you posted on developments.
-
Ok. Just thought it was possible that venting off positive drain pipe pressure was required at times hence the part I am looking at. In my case I need an AAV for the start of the under static caravan foul drainage plan and the more I look at this component the more convinced I am that it works in reverse. I will leave the mini stack open for the moment, buy a genuine Brett Martin AAV and then compare.
-
With the disk in the raised position there is an open route for air and when lowered is seems closed. It came out of a Bret Martin box but nothing on the component indicates a part number or manufacturer.
-
Is it possible to buy a 110mm valve that operates as an air expulsion valve? I ask because looking at the mechanism of the the AAV I purchased on friday it appears the close under negative drain pressure.
-
That is a problem I am now too familiar with.

Flexible pipe for awkward temporary foul drain connection.
epsilonGreedy replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in Waste & Sewerage
A timely warning. A visit yesterday to inspect an example at Screwfix confirmed it had a thin pipe wall similar to heavy duty pvc sheet. There are some flexible rubber 110mm drainage couplers available though much shorter than the 2ft I need to bridge so I will either need to source 1 meter of the rubber hose used to make these couplers or close the 2ft gap with hard plastic bends and then use a flexible couple -
Achieving a clean square cut with plastic 110mm pipe, how.
epsilonGreedy replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in Waste & Sewerage
A useful collection of advice videos there, thanks. Having watched the pipe cutting episode I am reassured I will do better using the @JSHarristechnique. Even on the low resolution instruction video I could see the resulting cut was something like a 5mm out of true. If that is what pro's do when on best public video behviour I need not worry about my diy standard ? -
Flexible pipe for awkward temporary foul drain connection.
epsilonGreedy replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in Waste & Sewerage
Ok. I will visit my local Screwfix which has one in stock and ask to inspect the example. It looks like water inlet hose as used on boats which is robust enough to be attached to an underwater seacock which would be typically left open for days when crew are aboard. -
Tile problem- need help.
epsilonGreedy replied to zoothorn's topic in Bathrooms, Ensuites & Wetrooms
Seems you used a floor tile on the walls of your shower cubicle. Not saying this is a heinous DIY error but could it be relevant? -
Flexible pipe for awkward temporary foul drain connection.
epsilonGreedy replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in Waste & Sewerage
This is the closest material I can for my requirement. I reckon it will require a few circuits of gaffer tape to make water tight in place of a proper rubber seal. https://www.screwfix.com/p/flexipipe-pipe-110mm/76775 -

This might work, just been outside experimenting with two 45 degree bends. -
Flexible pipe for awkward temporary foul drain connection.
epsilonGreedy replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in Waste & Sewerage
The thought crossed my mind. Then I reassured myself that static caravans often have a few meters of foul drain over ground and then external soil pipes have been used for over a hundred years. Thinking technically for a moment, if say the flushing water averages 10 degrees having been warmed by room temp and the transit time through the exposed section of drainage is 1 minute I cannot envisage the sewage freezing up like an except from the film The Day After Tomorrow. -
Flexible pipe for awkward temporary foul drain connection.
epsilonGreedy replied to epsilonGreedy's topic in Waste & Sewerage
This proposed bridging using flexible pipe will remain above ground during the two month temporary foul drain configuration.
