Hi from Abingdon, Oxfordshire - Self Build Extension

Hi there,

We are a couple from Abingdon planning a self build extension to the rear of our 1930s house we have just purchased. Very interested in using Isotex ICF. We are at the beginning of our journey and already having issues finding and Architect who is familiar with ICF. We know exactly what we want, we just need it put into plans... HELP PLEASE!!!

Welcome also to the first rule of self-building: be persistent. 

There's a simple strategy that'll help you: ask the manufacturers to recommend an architect, and work outwards from there. Look the architect up in the professional register. Do some networking. Ask  local architects ....

Hi I’m building in icf and live in Cirencester, my architect had never done anything in icf before, I don’t think it is necessary as long as you choose the one you want to use you just give him the dimensions of the blocks and he adds them in to his drawings.

Before I forget, here's a checklist for you. Its a high-stakes meeting, never hurts to have a list

Good luck with the project. If you do know exactly what you want then have you considered using an architectural technician rather than an architect. Maybe this might be less straight forward if you are using a non standard form of building but it could certainly be a lot cheaper!
