Penetrations through Radon / Damp proof membrane

Recommended Posts

I have top hats to seal the 110mm waste pipe penetrations through my radon membrane. Simple.

But also have a bank of 6x 63mm ducts to seal around too. What is the correct method to seal these?

The Icopal Easi pour radon seal looks like a very effective (and costly) method. Any other methods equally as acceptable?

@Russell griffiths is that just a liquid membrane though? The Icopal product is a two part sealant, mixed together and poured to 30mm thickness before hardening.

I don't think I could satisfactorily paint a liquid membrane around the ducts.

Could you not use a reinforcement bandage, either plasterers scrim or fibreglass mesh like the stuff they use in the new render systems.

Why can you not use one of the 110mm bandages and cut a slit in it to fold it to the desired diameter and then overpaint with the liquid.

Is this a radon membrane under a solid slab..??

Sure is

Duct tape and an off cut of membrane will work fine ..!

That i can do easily! First ever BC inspection looming, want to be impressing and not a cause for concern.

do you have the correct tape for the membrane ?

Yep, got double sided and single sided.

Only issue is once I've got an offcut around the 6 ducts, I will be able to 'see' down between, where the ducts don't tessellate.

I made a set of plastic plates on a cnc machine with banks of close fit holes for each group then sealed this plate to the DPC and then ran a bead of polyurethane adhesive around each pipe to make a perfect seal. The Bi was happy.

So... pull all but one of  the ducts to the side, tape the two edges and then let the ducts back into position. Next one, next one etc. That joins all the edges.

Then cut a letterbox in a spare bit, drop over the ducts and double sided tape and job done.

Squirt some expanding foam down first to take up the bulk of the gaps ;) Leave that cure and then cut back flush, then the membrane and tape.

@MikeSharp01, thats worthy of a gold star. Please proceed to the site cabin and affix one the the chart I sent you :)
