July 12Jul 12 Our array of solar panels have been live for a couple of years now. We have 46 and they have given us, here in the East of England, free electricity with a healthy rebate from Octopus each year. This was in the region of £100+ each year. Suddenly that is not happening any more. Our usage has not changed. I do believe that we have been switched to a different tarif but not sure? I have just had a statement, in the middle of this heatwave, showing my balance as £27.30 in credit. The previous month the credit was £207.30. I remember getting some sort of communication from Octopus about tariffs but did not have the energy to deal with it at the time. Due to old age and recent personal and family ill health my brain is very easily confused 🤪 Can anyone direct me to which is the best way forward to make sure we are on the best rate possible?

July 12Jul 12 Just look at your account online.l via the App is the easiest way to see your tariff. Just go to the usage page and there are links to your incoming and outgoing tariffs. Our outgoing is currently 12p it changed from 15p a while ago. Your issue could be how much your actually exporting rather than rate. Worth checking your panels haven't tripped off.
July 12Jul 12 I had a good look at going to Octopus but they’ve pulled their smeg tariff. I assumed that was for new clients but maybe not. I went with BG first both import and export. BG did warn me that the export rate was going down to 12pence a lump.

July 12Jul 12 I think Octopus likes to revert you to their standard tarrif on a regular basis unless you intervene.

July 12Jul 12 Someone I follow built this tool to calculate the best Octopus tariff to be on. If you plug in how much you generate, how much you.use etc.... it will tell you the best tariff. Solar Tariff Optimiser https://share.google/j6ENJD1G8wSMKYbLl

If your talking about the 12p/unit deal that's a power purchase agreement. The former is gov regulated but the latter is an unregulated contract between you and whoever wants to buy your export.
July 13Jul 13 Octopus happily signed us up despite me telling them not to when I phoned for info and omitted to tell me that they weren’t offering sensible export tariffs at the moment. Bless ‘em.
July 14Jul 14 Author Thanks guys! I guess I am going to have to have a conversation with them (sigh!).
July 14Jul 14 Is export actually shown on the statement? Import/export can occasionally come through as two different statements for me. I presume you have a smart meter?
July 14Jul 14 Might be best to open a new incogneto window on your browser and view Octopus's website without being logged in. Then you will see all the new customer rates.
July 15Jul 15 They completely lost my outgoing tariff from the bill recently. Took an email to their helpline and my £148 bill has gone to £305 credit. They still haven’t provided me anything to validate that with and my home mini doesn’t seem to be reporting properly now.
