Lincolnshire Ian Posted Tuesday at 20:27 Posted Tuesday at 20:27 We have primed white MDF skirting boards and architrave throughout our new build. I don't enjoy painting - has anyone come across paint which will cover primed MDF in just one coat of white paint? Thanks

Water based ‘gloss’ is very good, apply one coat AM, and another PM, and you’re pretty much done. Are you painting before fitting, or are they all fitted already?
Conor Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago You need undercoat. Then a single coat of good gloss usually does the job. Paint before fitting. 10x easier.
Russell griffiths Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago Nothing will you need at least an undercoat and two top coats. I even use two undercoats and two top coats.

If not, spray them - I laid them all out in my garage, and gave them a coat of 2k Satin Epoxy in about 10 minutes per application. I have a compressor and HVLP guns, but you could beg or borrow one, or get a cheap setup. If installed... you might be out of luck!
Super_Paulie Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago its an awful job, if i could spray i would. I used Leyland Eggshell on my MDF skirts downstairs, applied with a brush then a roller over the top to smooth it out, pretty good but it was 3 coats over the factory applied primer before i was happy. However. I recently used Zinnser BIN on my stair stringers and found it great stuff, applied with a foam roller. I havent top coated yet as im still in and out doing work but quite frankly it could pass a a top coat, looks amazin. 2 coats of that and it turned my 1930s turd-brown stringers totally white. I will likely go over it with the leyland eggshell when im ready. See attached stringer and scribed cover in Zinsser BIN.

stu w Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago I did 2 undercoat and 2 top coat on mine, primed any bare areas first and produced a lovely finish. You need a depth on MDF or it can show through any imperfections, do it once, do it properly i say
