A gully for a bin? Requested by Building Control - also question re AV car charger

We are at the final completion.  The BCO has asked that our bin store has a gully?  We questioned why and he said if you wash the bins there is somewhere for the water to run away.  We live in 38 acres, with a small bit of permeable paving the rest grass, this seems strange to us, anyone else had the same request?

Also Car Charger, we have an outlet and an MCB marked as "Car charger" for the outlet, don't have an electric car so don't want to install charger as we don't know what one we will need when the time comes, will this be acceptable?

Can't comment on the charger but the gully seems a bit ott. Never heard of that before.

No, push back on the gulley.  There is no reg that says you need a gulley for a bin.  For a single dwelling this is silly.

Our BCO insisted we had the actual charger installed. She explained that she had been pulled up by her seniors for agreeing the installation wiring only on a previous project. Her private BC company wants to see the charger on the wall before a completion certificate is issued. Like the OP we have no EV.

 

The bin gulley is a nonsense, never heard of that before. Wash the bins on the grass.

EV charging can take place via a 3-pin plug if the outlet socket is correctly rated.  If you do it through a regular one it can melt them over time. Is this just a regular 3-pin 230V house socket that is marked so that you know it's safe for EV use?

 

Otherwise you don't need a special EV charger for each brand of car.  An untethered 6kw wall charger with a type 2 socket on will be fine for all vehicles.  There's a few around that still have Type 1 charging (mostly Nissans) but they just use a Type1 to Type2 cable to get around this.

You can get a 7kW charger for £300-£500. Virtually all EVs have a type 2 socket, and that wont change any time soon. Only exception are the 1st generation Leafs, Zoes etc, so no worries about compatibility. Your spark has done all the hard work, dead easy to install the actual unit.

In the UK, mandatory EV car chargers for new homes are now required under Part S of the Building Regulations since June 2022

 

I think the rules rules require smart car chargers to be fitted now?  I remember that being discussed a while back, but I haven't checked.

 

I was lucky enough to have my Type 1 fitted for free by the government long before I had an EV...

With regards to the gully for the waste bin.  This was never included in the building building regs drawings, Ross inspected the drainage and a gully for bin was never raised.  The bin store will be housed on the permeable paving so whenever bins are washed, the water will soak away through the permeable paving. That is fine, it is advised but not a requirement for single dwellings. Please just send photos of the bin store installed, thank you.

Not necessarily...

 

My EV charger required a DP (double pole) RCBO, which that Contactum one isn't, then that it be Type C which that one clearly isn't and also be bidirectional which again, that isn't. 

 

I guess different chargers might ask for something different...

Id seriously be looking into a spares or repairs charger on ebay and fitting that to the wall. Surely he's not going to test it. Why the hell are these a mandated item on an individual build?! If you need one you will fit one. What possible reason is there for making people fit them?

I know.  We have decided some BC don't seem to take notice of the major things but nit pick!
