Removing window protective film

The protective film on our aluclad frames has been on for about two years.  I went to remove it today.  Oh dear. 

North facing wiondows are ok but on the (many) South facing windows are a nightmare.  The film has dried out, is brittle and does not want to come off the frame.

 

 

 

Is there any easy way to remove the film, or do I have to spend the next week scraping it off with my thumbnails millimetre by millimetre ? 😫

You might want to try Sticky Stuff Remover or similar.

This catches so many people out. 
 

Needs taking off and replacing regularly. I feel for you, but maybe you could reach out to the courts and ask for some scrotes on community service to be sent round. 
 

They won’t break the law ever again after that.

i hope its not against the law to keep the window film on, all my upstairs UPVC still has it on 2 years later... 🤣

Worth mentioning that leaving any protective film on kitchen cabinets for too long should be avoided too. After over a year we had a few areas that were quite sticky (worse on bits we'd peeled off slightly). Luckily warm soapy water was enough in our case.

Protective film should be removed within 6 months, earlier if possible and definitely before any render work/cladding work is undertaken and +1 for sticky stuff remover.
