I'll just put the links to the YouTube vids I am talking about here in case it helps anyone in future. He goes over every step including the flashing.

I’m struggling to understand how the landscape system works for GSE And what trays I would need for a 2 row landscape layout (and where to find these from as sourcing is quite tricky. I don’t know if GSE actually supports this panel size?

Here's a video re landscape install of the GSE trays. I haven't watched it so apologies if it isn't helpful.

A lot of conflict between ever changing panel sizes, and trays. Both GSE and Easy roof seem slow to get newer sizes through MCS for them to become certified and distributed.

Not sure if that's improved recently, but defo something you need to have in check before you order panels / trays.

Does a mounting system need to be MCS certified?

The only thing listed on our MCS cert from a 2015 FIT system is the panels themselves, not even the inverter is listed let alone any mounting.

Yup, if you want the install certified. A lot of people look the other way here tbh.

MCS is largely about safety, fixing types, and (in a nutshell) not having solar PV arrays all around the UK flying off in a storm and killing anyone.

Stainless fixings only, into timber for the S hooks etc.

If this was left ungoverned you’d have people zip tying them to slate hooks…..

Have to be the correct grade of stainless steel fixings.

A4, 316 grade is recommended.

Then comes the Screws or Bolts debate.

It's bolts that need to be used.

It always made me laugh using stainless bolts / screws with the aluminium clamps as used in a approved kits. From a materials perspective it's a disaster waiting to happen. Aluminium and stainless are not best of friends. Aluminium being a sacrificial anode to stainless.

Apparently there is a difference depending on relative surface areas, so an aluminium rivet in SS is bad, but a SS screw into aluminium is not so bad.

Chlorine generation from electrolysis is the biggest problem. Would be interesting to look at the mountings on the Marina Drive property that is less than 50m from the sea and is frequently battered by sea spray. The PV has been there about 15 years.
