Pocster Posted Monday at 17:24 Posted Monday at 17:24 Hard to explain . Like a vibration / whoosh and then settles so not constant . Assume fans dying . If I open this up ok to just wd40 the bearings ??
Pocster Posted Monday at 17:28 Author Posted Monday at 17:28 Apparently bearings are sealed so no wd40 . Will take it apart tomorrow
SteamyTea Posted Tuesday at 08:43 Posted Tuesday at 08:43 WD40 is not really a good lubricant, it is really a water displacer, so used to free up stuff. These sort of bearings should usually be greased, so a finger of Vaseline, or silicone grease, which I know you have by the bucket load. 1 1

It doesn’t actually sound like the bearings failing tbh - but clearly a fan issue
saveasteading Posted Tuesday at 09:35 Posted Tuesday at 09:35 It's a failure. Good bearings work millions of rotations. I was recently marvelling at a roatating flue vent we have. Rotates nil to 20 times a second, say 5 average. 15 years doing that outdoors in the wind. An mvhr fan is doing a simpler job at constant speed. 1
ProDave Posted Tuesday at 09:37 Posted Tuesday at 09:37 HDD bearings are the one I marvel at. I know they are only supporting a small mass, but they can run for many many years / decades. So far my MVHR fan bearings are okay, but I had to replace the bearings on my ASHP fan at about 5 years old, so chances are I will be doing that every 5 years. 1

Hoping the fan comes out easy ( bet it doesn’t) If you can find out the type of bearings you need in advance order some before tearing into the unit. You have a bearing puller (or a way to do the replacement)? Minimise downtime/repeat work. If you decide you don't need them now then you have them for when you inevitably will. 1

My plan was simply replace the entire fan so less (expletive deleted)ing about

Pocster Posted Tuesday at 13:15 Author Posted Tuesday at 13:15 Opened it up and this bit fell out ! This the summer bypass thingy ? Struggling to get it back in
Pocster Posted Tuesday at 13:25 Author Posted Tuesday at 13:25 Ok I’m confused . Powering it on causes a whirling noise presumably for this arm . But I can’t get the arm in and close the flap
-rick- Posted Tuesday at 13:29 Posted Tuesday at 13:29 Hopefully you spotted it but it doesnt look like the hinge at the bottom left is in correctly. From the earlier photo it looks like that end has to clip in first then the other end will snap in place? Other than that observation I can't help you. Do you have a service manual? If not, find one? 1
Pocster Posted Tuesday at 13:42 Author Posted Tuesday at 13:42 I can get the bottom clips in that’s okay . But as that arm goes in the slot- it gets stopped before I can get the panel closed - like it’s hitting something
Pocster Posted Tuesday at 13:45 Author Posted Tuesday at 13:45 Found manual online . Vent axia kinetic advance sx . Doesn’t even show this internal panel and arm
Pocster Posted Tuesday at 13:49 Author Posted Tuesday at 13:49 Even taking the arm off the panel it won’t go in 🙄
Pocster Posted Tuesday at 13:52 Author Posted Tuesday at 13:52 lol ! Nearly shit myself . Decided to turn it on whilst holding the arm in the slot soots. It took the (expletive deleted)er ! if I just permanently turn off summer bypass then I need not care ? ( obviously at the moment can’t get arm to fix to panel )
Pocster Posted Tuesday at 13:56 Author Posted Tuesday at 13:56 (edited) Can I find replacement fans …. 🙄 maybe … but how (expletive deleted)ing much !!! Edited Tuesday at 13:58 by Pocster

Then reassemble and let it revert to normal mode? 1 hour ago, Pocster said: Can I find replacement fans …. 🙄 maybe … but how (expletive deleted)ing much !!! Time to order some bearings then? 🙃
