Spinny Posted Tuesday at 19:28 Posted Tuesday at 19:28 Anyone used LED strip under the edge of a kitchen worktop ? Does it need to be IP65 or is IP20 going to be fine ? Does it need to be 8mm wide, could I use 10mm addressable ? Need to rebate the underside edge of the work top ?
jack Posted Tuesday at 19:37 Posted Tuesday at 19:37 Can't help with your actual question, sorry. I have a suspicion that you might highlight every little imperfection in your drawer and cupboard door alignment, but I might be overthinking it!

If 12/24v then it’s SELV (Safety Extra Low Voltage) so you could lay it in the bath and jump in safely. There are some very thin led strips out there atm, but the likelihood is you’d need deeper than standard worktops to gain a little more overhang, as a standard worktop doesn’t have sufficient real estate to do this imo. 1
nod Posted Wednesday at 06:11 Posted Wednesday at 06:11 The groove that is cut in granite and quarts is 20 mil x10 mil deep and seems to work ok 1
Spinny Posted Wednesday at 15:08 Author Posted Wednesday at 15:08 So I have kitchen cabinet people saying they normally just stick the LED strip to the underside of the worktop. Worktop people say it can be stuck on the bottom, but they can also cut a rebate in the underside of the quartz, for which there is no standard size rebate, and customer needs to specify depending on strip size used. . Anyone have this in their kitchen ? I guess you do @nod - did you buy the strip ?
-rick- Posted Wednesday at 15:13 Posted Wednesday at 15:13 Don't just stick normal strips underneath, you need a diffuser to avoid seeing the individual LEDs. You can get COB strips that have diffusion built in but the are usually white only so may not be what you want. So get an aluminium profile with a diffuser strip if you want a good looking outcome, consider getting profiles that angle the light in the way you want. I'd guess there are some prepackaged solutions for significant money that might avoid the profile but then you have lock in to the manufacturer rather than a generic, future proof, solution.
