Kitchen Tiling - Wall to wall or to edge of units?

Whats the general rule of thumb here? is there a preferred way?

 

Wall to wall and then add units on top or tile to edge of units

I’ve only ever fitted units first then tiled.

You can do it either way. Depends on the order you are doing things. We did whole floor in tiles. It was easier at the time, no guessing where units ended up.

Floor first, but where the cabinets are going to be just do full tiles,no cuts to speed things up. 

If you are a kind soul leave some whole tiles under the plinth, then if someone (or you) want to reconfigure the kitchen you have made someone's life easier.

I always assumed that ideally you would want tiles under the cabinets? Just in case of leaks? We had a slow leak from a washing machine nut that worked itself loose that took a while to make itself felt (only visible once it had seeped into the hallway and started on the laminate there but had seeped under the tiles in the kitchen too). I this an incorrect assumption?

I agree wall to wall every time.Much cleaner job,intergrated and free standing appliances easier to get in and out 😃

rarely see kitchen tiles in high end builds anymore, bit like purple baths!

 

stone splashback behind hob with upstand round the rest  and thats it.

 

We didnt bother on ours and have no issues.

I tiled into the space of the free standing appliances (washing machine and freezer) and just inside the bottom of the cabinets. The kitchen was already in.

The tiles under the units are the easy ones anyway.
