crispy_wafer Posted February 26 Posted February 26 Good Morning, Probably sounds a bit of a daft question, I'm prepping for boarding my window reveals, how much space should I leave between the edge of the window and the plastered face of board? Would you make the head same as the sides? Thanks Marek
BotusBuild Posted February 26 Posted February 26 Talk of plaster implies internal reveals? We have plaster board and plaster right up to the frames, no gap.
crispy_wafer Posted February 26 Author Posted February 26 my confusing wording wont be helping 🤣, yes to window reveals. Lets say before plasterboard I have an 80mm of frame on show from block to the bit that moves when you open the window. I was thinking after boarding to leave myself 45mm of frame showing? Would that be too little, too much, or just about right?
jayc89 Posted February 26 Posted February 26 I boarded straight onto the wall, didn't build it out any. I'd only do that if 1) the gap between the structural opening and frame was wider than the board thickness or 2) for aesthetic reasons.
Bonner Posted February 26 Posted February 26 Likewise, just dot and dabbed on the block openings. Leaves 30-35mm of frame for me, excluding the opening window frame. The head is a bit deeper which suits us for blinds mounted in the reveals. 1
Super_Paulie Posted February 26 Posted February 26 35mm for me, consistency around all the new windows meant various depth reveal boards, 9mm, 12.5mm and 6mm Wedi-board to achieve it. 1
Russell griffiths Posted February 26 Posted February 26 Because you said blockwork are you happy you have mitigated against the cold coming through the blocks, do you need to insulate this reveal ? once these bits are sorted it’s up to you how much frame you show. 25-30mm of frame here then the opening sash. 1

How deep would you say the track is on your blinds? 3 minutes ago, Russell griffiths said: Because you said blockwork are you happy you have mitigated against the cold coming through the blocks, do you need to insulate this reveal ? I meant the inner leaf, but yes your point is valid and stands. The reveals are taped over and the corners painted with soudatight. I have 80mm to play with, so if I want 40mm frame to sash, 15mm plasterboard (got a pile of 1200mm offcuts to use up) + skim leaves me with 20mm or so to insulate behind. I've over ordered on the jackoboard, would this do?, or should I PIR it - guess I could ct1 insulation to the PB, I've got some sheets of 20mm left over from when I did the screed perimeter? 18 minutes ago, Super_Paulie said: 35mm for me, consistency around all the new windows meant various depth reveal boards, 9mm, 12.5mm and 6mm Wedi-board to achieve it. Sounds like you had fun achieving that...

pritch Posted February 27 Posted February 27 30-35mm seems pretty common. If you're insulating the reveal, you might want to use PIR or something similar for better thermal protection. The reveal depth can vary based on your blinds—50mm for Roman or roller blinds is a good reference. 1
