Has anyone self installed Cedral?

Recommended Posts

I am not a DIY expert but i am also not a complete idiot( some may disagree) . My question is therefore, has anyone installed their own cladding and is it within the scope of the previously mentioned competence levels?

I'm currently reviewing a quote I've had in, (for a 3rd party to supply and fit for a client), as I think this is very far away from "ye' old rocket science".

Its tools and staging mostly, but you also need to know about ventilation / airflow spacing behind and where insect mesh etc needs to go in. Also if there need to be intumescent fire strips (if TF) and so on.

I think actually 'doing it' will be straightforward and you'll soon get into a rhythm with it. Have you looked on YouTube for videos on install / inspiration / methodology? Prob a good source to start off with to allow you to self-ordain lol.

I have Nick, which is why i thought to myself 'how hard can it be?'

I thought £22k was a little excessive for our 4 bed detached house. Have asked for a couple more quotes today as we are getting very close to needing this done, well being ready to be done. It can wait if the timing does not suit the prospective installers.

I'm going to be installing Cedral Click T&G on the back of my place this summer and from what I've read it's pretty straightforward.

How is that split between labour and materials.

No idea really. But, you can, and i have previously, costed the planks themselves. You dont get anywhere near this figure in materials alone. The Cedral website has a cost estimator that uses your square meterage as a basis for the estimate. That came out at £7500-9500. When i spoke to them to ask why it was rubbish they had no explanation or interest in providing one.

Stupidly i had based my budget on it and put in £10k

Have you costed in all the aluminium corner trims and base starter trims.
they can add up a fair bit.

im not sure if the cost estimater on the website costs in wastage, so you need to allow 10-15% wastage.

but even if it comes out at £15000, then you can save £5000 doing it yourself

with the special trims it’s a fairly straightforward job, but requires lots of setting out correctly.

Done this on our build . Not difficult I.e I did it . All the trim etc adds up massively . Looks great but easy to scratch and the so called matching touch up paint doesn’t match .

I’m installing the James Hardie VL plank which is similar to the Cedral Click, my property is modern looking so I preferred the flush fit as opposed to feather edge.

Its not difficult, other than for installing on my ICF i need to screw through 180mm of insulation into the concrete core.

Both Cedral and James have documents on air gaps and how to install.

No but even if it doubled the cost of the planks themselves it would not come to £10k.
