Concrete v slate roof tiles

Recommended Posts

We’re having a loft conversion and have been asked which roof tiles we want, either concrete edgemere tiles or composite slate tiles.

Pros and cons of each? We really don’t know!

Both fine. Will last 60-70 years with some care.

Tiles look chunkier, slates look flatter.

Natural slates will last twice as long but cost 3 times as much.

We paid £1.24 a slate for our Spanish slates from Jewson. Also at the time concrete tiles had a massive lead time! times have changed since then I presume though

Do real, you won't regret it, concrete and composite looks good for a short period, slate looks good for decades.

What's wrong with your existing roof tiles? I'd assume yud be replacing like for like. Your planning permission may not permit a change in roof covering.

Why just the 2 options. How about natural slate?

Two options provided by the contractor. I can go back to discuss any cost implications of natural slate.
