Need planning permission for side fence driveway?

Hi

I have a driveway separated from the one of neighbours by a shallow brick flower bed.

I would like to increase my privacy and build a fence 1meter 60/70cm tall so their car won't look straight in my window. Do I need planning permission? My driveway faces a quiet public road and woulf not be for the full lenght of thr driveway and would not wrap around it.

Any advice? Thanks

Generally up to 1 metre tall or less a fence does not need planning permission even if right next to the road.

Does your house / estate have any covenants that might stop you putting up any fence in this location?

I don’t believe you do need planning for what is in effect a garden fence (up to 2m) but lower where it meets the road so vision pulling out is not compromised. You need to check covenants for your estate/house just in case

Thank you! There are no covenants, I mean there are but refer to building new roads.

So no planning permission? For fence lower than 2 meters, alongside my own driveway that faces a road. Also the fence would not be fully 1:70 high, it will be decreasing in grades.

I mean a fence 1 meter high whats even the point of having it.

That looks like a party wall. Have you spoken to your neighbour about this? I'd assume the existing wall height would be included in the 1.8m max height limitation. If it's for privacy, I'd bring it out just as far as the second step in the wall, so you are not compromising any visibility to the road. And I'd keep it at the one height (e.g 1.6m high at the house and 1.8m high at the step down). Double sided, boards on both sides.

But otherwise, what you are planning on doing is perfectly reasonable and won't need planning permission.

@ProDave was simply pointing out legislation regarding fences on a drive next to a road. So you want a fence 1.6-1.7 m tall? If that is a party wall the fence would need to be on your drive (your property) unless you agree with the neighbour it goes on the wall but would not require planning permission.

I miss read the OP that said:

"I would like to increase my privacy and build a fence 1meter 60/70cm tall so their car won't look straight in my window."

I read that as a fence 1 metre or 60/70 cm high.  NOT 1.6 or 1.7 M tall.

Sometimes I read words too literally.
