Marvin Posted Wednesday at 08:41 Share Posted Wednesday at 08:41 We have a Cool energy ASHP CE-iVT9 which has stopped working. It has a Carel control system and has been working fine since July 2021. The symptoms are: Power on and Carel active Hot water and or Heating demand can be chosen but no heat delivered. Heating on with demand: Carel indicates heating chosen, temperature 10 degrees below set temperature, pump on, no fan and no compressor. What checks can I make to identify the problem? I am going to inspect ASHP now in case of freezing?? M

ProDave Posted Wednesday at 09:29 Share Posted Wednesday at 09:29 Can you post a picture of the Carel controller? Our village hall has a Dimplex Ground source heat pump. When the Carel controller for that packed up, it was £1500 for a replacement and then a lot of hassle getting it to work as there was very little information and in spite of being told it was configured correctly for our heat pump, it was not. I doubt yours has the same controller but I am interested to see what is there. Try and get a range og photos, close out showing the whole lot and close in showing the terminals etc.

Marvin Posted Wednesday at 11:11 Author Share Posted Wednesday at 11:11 Contacted Coolenergy. Who were very helpful and as I had a reasonable understanding of the whole system we were able to go through things on the phone. Problem seemed to be related to hot water heating function as since emailing Coolenergy I had set the Carel to heating and it had started heating, but when turned on to hot water - no compressor or fan. Changing various setting as instructed changed the fan speed from low to normal and the hot water started working again.. This may have been a blip of some sort. However, I will do some tests over the next few days.... Here's pictures of the Carel programmer:
ProDave Posted Wednesday at 11:25 Share Posted Wednesday at 11:25 It could also be a problem with the fan motor? Most heat pumps use a fan motor with a built in speed controller, and they have a fan rotation sensor output. If the fan is failing to run when set to high speed, it would not give the fan run signal and the heat pump would not start. but you would expect it to give an error message to say that is the reason.

I Think its something to do with the software...

Sounds like a soft error, you might be able to recover by doing a factory reset (having carefully recorded all settings first!).
Conor Posted Wednesday at 15:20 Share Posted Wednesday at 15:20 When I had a power cut, It glitched the controller and I had to do a factory reset to get it working again. Cant remember the specific issue but sounds similar to your, unit would say "on" but nothing happened. Only issue I've had.
